Hiya....
Can anyone help me? I'm a confused muppet in distress
I'm in a house, sharing with 3 other students, we signed up with NTL for their £9.99 a month for 9months student contract. It's all installed and dandy.
BUT....I've tried to get everyone's connections up and running (two are on XP and the others is on Windows 98, I'm on XP) but so far only my internet is running (don't ask me how I got it running as I have no idea!). We are all on Ethernet connections, and none of us have been successful in running the disc they gave us
NTL have been pretty unhelpful. The loadup CD that they gave us didn't work, then they gave my a no. to type into the address bar, I got through to this once, and that worked ok, but alas, no internet. I'm too patient when it comes to the computers, so its been 'my' task to get everyone online..despite the fact
Problem:
All the ethernet cables are working properly.
The ethernet cables are all going through a router, which works fine and is connected up to the NTL box.
All the computers have accessed the internet before, they just haven't been able to access broadband.
I honestly don't know how I got mine working....
Is there an easy way to bypass the start up disc from NTL? On my network connections it says that I have a 1394 and a Local Area Connection, I'm not dialling up Broadband or anything like that, its just automatically on. How can I get the other computers to work?
What can I do to get the broadband working?
If anyone, and I mean anyone can suggest anything and I mean anything to help I would really really really appreciate it!
thank you so much in advance,
ditzy x
P.S I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong section

have you turned on internet connection sharing (ICS)

you might need to turn off each PC's firewall to see if that is blocking anything (ok for a second while you are playing
or on the XP ones just turn on the Windows one..) Ex forum ambassador

As all PCs are running through the router, and your's is the only one to get to the internet, it sounds like your PC may be issued with the WAN IP (the IP address issued by NTL). Not really sure how cable connections work myself.
Do an ipconfig in the command prompt for each of your PCs. Are they all in the same IP range & subnet - i.e. do they look similar?.
If you can't get it working via the router, I'd recommend trying to connect your PC only to NTL. Then with a spare network card (if you have one), connect the two other PC's into yours via the router, and enable ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) - although this will mean your PC needs to be switched on pretty much all day (as it will have to be on for the other's to connect).
Hope this is of some use.

Thank you for all your help, there really is wealth of knowledge on here!
Thankfully my damsel in distress moment is now over! Apparently the Router isn't wired to have more than 1 person online at a time....we're currently researching the best one to have!
Thanks for all your help :T
