Yes Sarah, the older they get the more stubborn. I paid £100 odd for a 'toaster' for mum with the listening books, headphone etc, but she refused to even try it out. We have tried everything and the only thing that appealed to her was the gadget that you put on a cup that goes ping when liquid reached the level. She loved that thing, told her when her wine glass was full!!!!

Stop teasing missile. Can I have your spanish comment please? There are bits I love about Holland and England. This is all part of my confusion about my life when my mother finally pops her clogs. Holland is a very frenetic place these days. I have been back in England for 18 years and I live in deepest Kent, its very quiet and tranquil and has a lot going for it. What remains of my husband's family live in Amsterdam. Barbed wire round the balcony, the population diluted by Turks and Moroccans, its not the place I grew to love in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Plus its colder there in winter than England. Plus I think going back is never the right thing to do. Spain is where I plan to go. I have always loved their lifestyle, food and general approach to life. I learnt Dutch with no problem so I suppose I can adjust to learning Spanish.

I said "I found the land flat and boring". My little jest about the way dutch translates into english, i.e. they talk about land whilst we talk about the country.
I am sure you will enjoy wherever you go, it is all about making the effort and the French have a saying for it.

  • My dad is receiving Lucentis on the NHS with no charge, the HA didn't even quibble. Said he qualified due poor sight in other eye. Only problem was there has been a delay of approx 2 months due to the fact the first consultant misdiagnosed the condition as dry macular degeneration. Told him there was nothing they could do. Sought 2nd opinion, told by 3 specialists was wet MD therefore could treat. Not sure how sucessful wiil be, but worth a go.
Dad had had to give up driving which a total blow them both.
If I were the OP I would badger the HA local papers etc, time is of the essence for treatment to be succesful. DONT DELAY, ACT TODAY!!!
2011, this will be my year .

Alice Mahon is a former labour MP for Halifax. She has developed macular degenaration and her local health aurhtority have refused to fund the drug that she needs.

She has started a campaign to prevent the NHS from allowing people who need this drug from going blind.

Alice Mahon, formerly known as Red Alice, should know about the NHS if anyone does. She was formerly a nursing auxiliary.

Nowadays, few MPs have much experience of the real world where ordinary people live and work.

OP - could you please tell me which type of MD your father has, as I understand there are 2 types wet eye and dry eye. My father is in a very similar position with both eyes having MD and his is the dry eye, he is awaiting a response from the Eye Infirmary.
