Mobile Broadband access in France

Hope someone can help a novice with networking.
I have bought a wifi enabled laptop. I accessed the internet last night at home via wifi and my home broadband connection but next week I am going to France and want to use it for accessing emails & some surfing.
What do I have to do?
I am going to a remote part of France and piggy backing someone's broadband connection will not be likely. Someone has mentioned to me a SIM card in France to give access but I've no idea where to get one and what I do with it.
Any advice welcomed.
