cordless hammer drill-best one?

I need to buy a new hammer drill and I was just wondering if anyone could advise me as to the best one to get. It's just for general DIY around the house. I'd like to buy one that will last and has a bit of power to it, if that makes sense!!

Thank you very much in advance for your help. I really appreciate it.

Theirs no "Best" their all pretty useless-even the more powerful ones, and as for keyless chucks, their useless as well, unless your a weightlifter. only good for lightweight jobs.
  • You've obviously never used a good one then.I have several makita cordless drills for my work and they are all up to any task.May be too much for diy though.

I foudn the challenge ones are good as long as you consider they wont last forever. I put mine through hell and it lasted ages (the batterys screwed up, but returned it for another :) ) depends how ya gonna use it really they'll never be good enough for drilling through brick for that you'll need corded.
Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....
  • A decent combi cordless drill will go into brick.
  • Thank you all for your advice. I don't really have a budget in mind, I just want to get a drill that will last. The makita drill sounds promising. Would it be ok for general household tasks do you think?
  • we use both makita and panasonic sds hammer drills at work one 24v and one 28 v but they arnt cheap at 300 ish plus vat .have a look at ryobi at bq if more diy use
if you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction
  • Try the Erbauer sold by screwfix. The 18v combi drill has loads of reviews from people using them all the time.Have a look, see what you think. It looks a good choice for general use.Thinking of getting one myself.Expect to pay more for a makita, though there are some bargains if you shop around.

As a domestic user of many years standing I can testify that if you buy too cheap you’ll get rubbish.
For really heavy jobs you really need a corded drill.
However I was given, as a present, a JCB 18v cordless with 2 batteries a couple of years ago.
I’d never heard of JCB drills before but, as a domestic tool, it is absolutely brilliant.

I believe Bosch make good diy equipment.

they make a decent SDS drill for around £90 it's corded and included a couple of attchements including a hammer chistle.
