Cheap ( but nice ) hot choc?

My DS loves hot chocolate :D

However, the one he likes best is called 'Spanish hot chocolate' from Tesco, and costs £4.99

I've bought Green & Blacks, Galaxy and Cadburys in the past for him to try, and although he wouldn't complain, bless him, he isn't keen.

Any recommendations?

Hi, there  We have an older thread on Hot Chocolate here. Anything take your fancy

Must admit, the best hot choc I've had has been made with grated chocolate and full milk - not great for the waistline, though :o

I'll add this to the above thread later.

can you try tipping a "cheaper" brand in the posh tub to see if he genuinely likes only the posh brand

what about using cocoa with hot milk?

I love the aero one myself
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

my ds drinks hot choc like there is no tomorrow (if I'd let him that is!) so I decant a cheaper brand into a nice glass jar (we have one for tea, one for coffee and one for hot choc) - he hasn't noticed any change and is quite happy!

TBH when I have tried the other brands, I didn't tell him ;)
Trouble was that instead of just drinking it as he usually does, he asks which kind of new choccy he's got

    Maybe he'll be a food taster when he's older ; )

    I haven't tried coacoa ( is that Bournville? ) , so I'll give that a go :T

The Spanish one is lovely, it goes all thick when you make it and it's delicious (free samples are a perk of being a deli owner's daughter lol). The only one I've found that goes a bit thick when you make it is the aero one. The Whittard's ones are nice too but I don't think that they're much cheaper.

Maybe you could use a cheaper brand, but add a bit of real chocolate to the cup, so it goes thick & gooey like the spanish one?

Could you mix the expensive one with a cheaper version. You may have to play with proportions till it is ok but I think I would start with more good stuff and then "water" it down till you get to where he is used to it or he really objects.

The malteasers hot chocolate is gorgeous, the only one I'll eat.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

I like the ones from Whittard. They are not what I would call cheap, in fact I think they're about the same as the £4.99 you're paying at the moment, but there's an offer on (a long term one I think) - 3 for £12.

I discovered them when my sis bought me a "seven deadly sins" gift set for Christmas a couple of years ago with little boxes in each of 7 different varieties
