  • Certain flavours of Redcare will work with ADSL.

You still need Microfilters along with something from Redcare called an MCD.

I have link explaing more somewhere...

I'm not an expert either but I do know that the difference is that Redcare alarms constantly monitor your phone line. The advantage is that if the line is cut (a burglar might do this to prevent you calling for help) the alarm company is alerted because there's no signal on the line.
Thanks for your help!  This is very interesting to know because when we get the renovation done to the house next year we are going to install a new alarm.  We might have to get a second line or get broadband removed ( if we get broadband in the 1st place).
I don't think Jo will have a problem if she has the same type of alarm as yours, ie one that simply dials out when it goes off.
I don't think I should have a problem either according to the responses I have received on here! ;)

I have the yale alarm which you set to dial 5 numbers if the alarm goes off and i have tellywest broadband and never had a problem with any of them working together, infact i have 4 phones and one alarm hooked into my telephone line :)

Thanks for taking the time to respond! ;) Our alarm is also Yale but you can set it to dial 6 numbers. We have 4 telephones, a fax machine, sky, 2 computers which use the internet(Obviously not at the same time) and the home alarm! ;D

I have a somewhat similar situation.
Currently 2 BT lines, one for dial-up internet and the alarm link, one for normal voice.
Now that broadband has come down a bit in price I am taking the plunge, moving everything to one line and discontinuing the second - getting a reduction in cost to BT to cover the additional broadband cost - win/win!

The only snag is the alarm, which is hardwired into a BT socket. Initially the alarm company said get BT in to put a plug and socket connection in (they said only BT could do it because a special tool is needed to put the plug on. Ho Hum, ) Then I could put a filter on the socket and plug the alarm in. When I pointed out that this defeats the original objective of hardwiring it in the first place they said they could fit a filter in their alarm box (for a fee of course!) and they thought it would allow the alarm to use either dial-up or broadband (there is a timing problem getting the alarm company and BT broadband swithchon in sync, which means the alarm may not be able to call)
Am waiting for the price, and technical confirmation.
    Will post if anyone interested.

    Bani
