    Thanks for all the advice.

    Update...

Barclaycard transfered the money into my account free of charge.

I was told that when mistakes like this happen I can choose to ignore it and thus i'm not legally bound to return the money.

However, I will wait a couple days to ensure the money is safely in my account and no further charges have been made.

I shall then contact the bookie and sort out returning their money.

I think it sounds a bit over cautious.

OP already said "Indeed the money has been credited by mistake and the bookie would naturally like me to return it to them."

Well, suppose you can ask Barclaycard what you gonna do.

My sister was once involved in this sort of scam. It's not over cautious at all. I would wait at least 7-8 weeks before refunding them the £1000 just to be sure.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I'm pretty sure legally you do have to refund the money unfortunately. Make sure you get some compensation for your time dealing with it though! :)

It's certainly interesting, although not something worth me investigating further as it doesn't alter my position. But a couple of free bets would be nice.

Ask em for a free bet vegan, by all means. If you don't get it though, a big UK bookie will understand that you have the right to be cautious and to ask them to deal with Barclaycard.
