Prescription Glasses - wrong presciption? UPDATE 30/7 Tesco Are Useless

thanks for that great advice.
I will go back to tesco tomorrow after work and see what they say. I just hope they are ok about it. I just thought the eye exam was very short and the bloke hardly did any testing at all. I think he only asked me to read the lines twice and asked me the red/green colour one twice as well that was it
Should glasses really cause headaches like this though? I have never had it before at all, and have had a lot of pairs of glasses.
it is a little unusual to have such a severe reaction to a new prescription, but some people are sensitive to relatively small changes.
I hope it is something simple that they can sort out for you easily, if not you can ask for a full refund.
If Tesco can't sort out your prescription but you still have your heart set on the armani sunnies you DO have a couple of other options.
a) you might be able to purchase "frame only" from tesco, and have them glazed at another opticians (at Specsavers where I work we charge £39 for this plus the cost of any tints/coatings etc)
b) if you have a sight test elsewhere & get glasses you are happy with you can then take that prescription to tescos to glaze into your frames you love.
Personally I would go for the first option if possible, as it is not obvious at this stage whether the problems you are having are down to the prescription or the glasses themselves (glazing error?) I would always try to have my glasses made at the same place I had my eyes tested, makes any problems easier to resolve.
edit, and ps, don't have another eyetest elsewhere 1st and then try to make tescos pay for it, it is very unlikely they will refund that if you have not made them aware that you are having any problems (and if you go to another optician most will advise you to give the original optician a chance to rectify any probs first - it's in our code of ethics & guidelines)Wiggly:heartpulsFB0 -
well i have just been to tesco and they have booked me in for a retest today at 3.40.
She tested the glasses and they came out at what the prescription said they should be, so i dont know what the problem is with them.
Can different style of glasses cause this?
i have never had rimless before so could this be the problem?0 -
Hi I just started a thread not realising this one was up! I've just got a new pair of specs from Specsavers (had a test there too) and I thought the eye exam was too quick. I usually go to Boots and get my eyes tested in half an hour but this time it was too quick. Optician got me to read a couple of lines of letters, then she did the black round balls test where she changes the lens and you choose no 1 or no 2 for the better vision, then the red and green 8s test but no follow up with the final lines of letters. My prescription has changed in both eyes and just got my new specs. I'm not seeing properly out of the right eye (slightly blurred) but the sales assistant told me the prescription is right. Do I insist on another eye test, or could the glasses be made to the wrong prescription? I do have astigmatism and don't know if she took that into account as I didn't mention it at the time of the exam.0

i have never had rimless before so could this be the problem? After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
well i went and had my retest and had the senior optician do it, and boy was he thorough. It took about 45mins in total.
The outcome is i was given the wrong prescription. My eyesight had not really changed and i do have a very very very small astigmatism.
The new prescription reads as
right - sph -1.75
left - sph -1.50, cyl -0.25 and axis 155
this is as opposed to the old one which read, right sph - 1.75, left sph - 2.00
they have given me the new glasses which will be sent away today i was actually cheeky and changed my mind on the rimless and went for a totally differet style to those. The woman didnt like doing it, but i said well if not i will have a full refund as per your policy.
I have said i will check the glasses thoroughly when they arrive, and will wear them for about 20-30 mins before leaving the store ( will just do my shopping whilst wearing them) and then go back and tell them if they are ok.
Mr divadee says they should of knocked a bit of discount off for the hassle, pain and petrol money but i dont know of this is worth persuing is it?0 -

go back and complain! I did and it has worked for me. If you cant see there is obviously a problem like mine was. I would ask for a free re-test and take it from there. let me know what happens0 -
I might not be able to get to the opticians just yet, but when I do watch this space lol! It's really frustrating as I'd like to go sooner but work gets in the way. I'll keep you updated as I will get it sorted.
Divadee, did you get a free retest? I'm thinking if I just call in to the opticians they will say there is nothing wrong with my glasses and then I'll have another wasted journey having to book an appointment for retest.0 -

i got a free re-test yes, if i was you maybe call them and explain to the manager your problems and tell him you want a free re-test and see what they say at least then you havent had a wasted journey.
Also i would go sooner rather than later, the quicker you go back i think the better.
also they can test the lenses in the glasses really easily, they just put them on a machine and it does them in about 10 secs!! so if they are wrong you will know.0 -

Boots made a mistake with my script, the sunglasses frame was right but the script wasnt. I had a job with them to get a refund, they offered me another pair, but i couldnt trust them again after that. They were quite determined not to refund me though.
Specsavers did the same thing last year, but because i have prisms, they take well over a week to be made anyway. I had ordered glasses and sunglasses as a 2 for 1 deal, they made a mistake on the sunglasses which ended up taking several more weeks to be cleared up and i got a refund. My sunglasses still arent right so i just dont wear them. I am dreading having to buy my next pair. I tested them myself in the shop but i wish they had just re-tested them to check the script was correct.
But in answer to your question, i suppose its at their discretion.0
