Prescription Glasses - wrong presciption? UPDATE 30/7 Tesco Are Useless

I bought 3 pairs of glasses from tescos last week. I also had my eye test there as well.
When i had my eye test (which took about 10mins) the optician said my prescirption had changed and i would need new glasses, ok so order 2 pairs of rimless and 1 pair of sunglasses. totalling £250.
Went to pick up the glasses yesterday I was very happy. Got home and started wearing them and this is when the problems have started.
I have got major headaches from these glasses, even after 5-10mins of wear the pounding head and aching eyes start. I thought it would just take me a while to get used to them, but today I have been in agony and its just getting worse.
I have now gone back to my old glasses and the pain is slowly subsiding.
I think I have been given the wrong prescirption for my eyes, but what should i do? Would it be best for me to go to a different opticians and not tell them anything and just get an eye test and see what they say if they match obviously i will just have to get used to the new lenses, and if they are different then go back to tescos for a refund? Or should i be honest with the new opticians and see what they say to that?
On my old prescription my optician put down sph, cyl and axis. at the tescos optician he just put down the sph is this what is causing the problem?

Headaches are normal. I got told they may last for about a week or two.0

I would go back to tesco and ask if they would check the prescription and the glasses.0

What was the strength on your old prescription and how does this compare with your new one?-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.0 -
Go back and ask for a re assessment / tell them what your problems are.
If you are still not happy go some else and ask to be tested again, and explain why.

the old prescription was right sph - 1.75 and left sph - 1.50, right cyl - 0.25 and left cyl - 0.25, axis - right 90 and left 155
the new one is right sph - 1.75 and left sph - 2.00 (so not a huge change i dont think) but they never put anything done for cyl and axis
i have tried again this evening and i have to say i was actually in tears, the punding and eye ache was so severe all i could do was lay on the sofa with my eyes shut (which doesnt help when your trying to get your eyes used to new glasses lol). i never ever get headaches at all. In my life i can honestly say i have had about 3!!
This is not my first new pair of glasses, and i have never had headaches before, so i dont think this is normal so to speak.
I have made an appointment with d and a for saturday, and i am going to compare the prescription with the tesco one, if it is different, i will be able to say to tesco you got it wrong i want my money back hopefully.
I also want d and a to test my new glasses as mabe they have been made up wrong or something??0 -
It sounds like you have astigmatism which has not been picked up by the tesco optician.
An eye test taking 10 minutes does seem a little short. Did they take your glasses and check the old prescription.
I had exactly the same situation, not with tescos and with only 1 pair of glasses.
I'd call them first thing tomorrow and ask what they advise you do when they get the prescription wrong, do they want you to attend another optician they they refund you the full amount or do they want to retest you?
I got a full refund for mine, and went to vision express. I've now had laser surgery so thank god don't need glasses any more.0 -
a full test should take 20-25 mins. go back to tescos and explain your problem. get them to check the specs are made up correctly, if they are get them to recheck your vision ... if its their mistake they have to retest your vision and correct the glasses at no extra cost ... if you go elsewhere you will have to pay for another test.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. Hi, I'm an optician, so I'll try to help.
A -0.25 CYL will not make much difference, it is next to nothing (and the axis just says what direction the cyl is at, so with no cyl you will have no axis)
The only real difference in the old and new prescription is that your left eye has gone from -1.50 to -2.00, not a massive change, and wouldn't normally cause major problems, but it may take more than one day of wearing the glasses to adapt to the change.
If you have another eye test elsewhere you can almost guarantee that the prescription will be slighly different again, as an eye test is quite subjective, and the results depend on the responses given by the patient as well as the skill of the optician.
First course of action should be to take the spex back where you got them, explain your problems and get them to check that the glasses have been made correctly, there may be an error with the lenses or how they are lined up infront of your eyes.
If the spex are ok then they should offer to retest your eyes free of charge, and change the glasses free afterwards if necessary.Wiggly:heartpulsFB0 -
the did take my old glasses to check the prescription, but i too thought a 10 min eye exam was a little short.
I am willing to stump up the cost of the eye exam at d and a it will cost £13.75 BUT if it shows a different one to tesco i will be trying to claim it back from them.
To be honest if tesco have mucked up in some way, i just want my money back, i have lost all confidence in them now (they also mucked up a bit when ordering but thats a different story).
I will be sad, as i ordered the most beautiful pair of armani prescription sunglasses from them that i can not find anywhere else at all, and i had fallen in love with them. The rimless glasses that i am having a problem with where £120 BOGOF offer. I looked around a few opticians but they were a lot more expensive than tesco.
i wish i could have laser eye surgery, but cant afford it as at a cost of £800 per eye for LASIk its just to much!!0 -

thanks for that great advice.
I will go back to tesco tomorrow after work and see what they say. I just hope they are ok about it. I just thought the eye exam was very short and the bloke hardly did any testing at all. I think he only asked me to read the lines twice and asked me the red/green colour one twice as well that was it
Should glasses really cause headaches like this though? I have never had it before at all, and have had a lot of pairs of glasses.0
