A&L Direct ISA issue 4 problem

Hi All,

Looking for advice on what I can do next.

I opened an A&L Direct ISA issue 4 early in May, and at the same time arranged for my exisiting ISA from NS&I to be transferred to A&L.

NS&I show this transfer as happening on 31st May (I closed down the NS&I account) but as yet its not shown up in my A&L ISA. Every time I cal them (3 times now) I'm told there's been a delay, but not to worry, it will be there shortly and any interest will be backdated accordingly blah blah...

But the point is, it's now almost the end of June and its still not showing up in my account, and I'm a bit sick of being fobbed off by their excuses of a delay, whether or not the interest will be backdated.

What can I do about this please? Complaing to A&L won't get me anywhere, I'll get the same excuse. Do I have any other rights and a legitimate complaint? (i.e Suppose I wanted my ISA money NOW! Or needed a statement to show I had this amount in savings, for a mortgae for example? at the moment it's showing a big fat 0 in my ISA account so my £10K is osmewhere in the ether).

Many thanks in advance

It took mine almost 4 weeks, and A&L did backdate the interest.

Hi My Wife and myself opened up a mini cash isa with A&L 23/05/2008 at the Swinton Branch in Salford we put the max sum each in.
Both just had letter today marked ISA INVALID.
The letter goes on to say that the original application form was incomplete and as it has not been corrected they have had to invalidate our ISA's. Therefor the account will be receiving interest net of tax. Contact the Branch asap to ensure we do not lose out.
As we completed our forms at the Branch with the branch assistant filling the forms in we were at a loss.
Called at Branch told computer error not to worry they have had so many applications they are unable to deal with in the 30days so computer sent letter. Assured we will be contacted and no interest will be lost.
What a way to go on?

Its disgraceful! It makes me even more determined to kick up a fuss.. but to who and where?

I know there's a 'banking ombudsman'.. but I think I need to complani somewhere else first before I can take it here, is this right?

I'd be IMMENSELY grateful is one of you kind bods could spell out for me what I have to do next in terms of kicking A&L's rear.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Firmmonkey,
Its very exasparating but I don't think there is much one can do I tried on another matter to exert pressure by telephoning FSA in London who will write to the A and L and that might help. I lodged a complaint last September against another Bank and they still have not dealt with it.
It seems reading this forum that ISA laws need to be much stronger.

My girlfriend opened one in April and was paying money into it each week.

Then in May they told her she couldn't pay any money in as it was not validated.

She was fobbed off time and time again.

They said it will be fine next monday. Hopefully the interest is backdated!
