What are these bloody MAC's for anyway?

I've never known anybody to need one outside of the UK...in the USA you phone up and say cancel my account and then you call up another company and they say we'll send you the new modem in the mail tonight and it'll be there tomorrow - job done!

Now in Holland (where I am now) you ask for a line and six months later nothing happens despite endless calls.

What is is about "Europe" and the inability to provide service - generally speaking?

Its the EU of course! Lets hold an election and then ignore the results! Ahem, Irish referendum. Anyway, before I get sidetracked....!

In the UK the problem is that BT (Post Office Telecommunications as was) still behaves like a monopoly supplier. Other operators are not allowed in their exchanges and BT still own the last mile of cable to the subs premises.
