i have sent my mum who lives in france my nationwide current account card so that she can withdraw without incurring any currency exchange rates for the things i need to pay for over in france. however often in one of the uk branches i go to they ask me whether i have my card to run it through the machine as it is faster to input money details etc. I always feel awkward about this as i have to say it is forgotten at home. what are other people's experience of this? i remember reading about other people sending their cards also abroad. have they had any problems at all?

It is better to have joint account with two cards. Otherwise you can open second account with NW - preferably with cash card. Cash card is more secure when is used by your relatives abroad. I have two joint accounts: one with two debit cards for us and the second with two cash cards. Transfers between accounts are instant. I do all transactions for the second account online.0

I sent my cash card to my daughter in Mexico, I could transfer money from my A&L account, but when I've put money into the account, she's always needed it straight away, so I have withdrawn cash from A&L walked up the road to Nationwide and paid it in without a card and just told the cashier I didn't have my card with me, told them my account no and not had a problem.
I don't think they will give you a card for your Mum if she does not live in the UK and the account is only in your name, not joint with your Mum.
I'd be interested in finding out, cos it does feel odd having an account and not having the card. My daughter has not lived in the UK for several years so is not on any recent electoral rolls, so I didn't think it was worth trying to open a joint account with her, but she is coming home for Christmas, so if it could be done that would be good.0 -

I don't know about NationWide but at Abbey you could have a second card (or even third) on your a/c in your own name. For example if you had a VISA Debit Card you could also have a VISA Electron Card and a Cash Card on the same account.
Alternatively do you have a paying-in book? Or do you have an account elsewhere so that you can move money via a BACS Payment, etc?

My son-in-law has just lost the cash card, men are useless, so I've had to order another one.0

Abbey took away my daughter's Electron card when they gave her a debit card and said she could only have the one card on an account.
Presumably those who have sent someone else their card have also revealed their PIN, thus breaching the T&C's of the accounts and absolving the banks of any responsibility for money withdrawn therefrom.0 -

grumbler wrote:Cool  . However, I think this is very unusuall. You cannot do this at Nationwide. Even more, one cannot upgrade flex-account with a cash card to an account with a debit card .
You can - ask them to upgrade the card in the branch, they have an immediate response system where they just tap in the card details and they can tell you there and then if your cash card can be a debit card.
