  • Do be careful using tiger balm as it contains cadjput oil which if used in excess it can cause heart palpitations but after saying that if you can get hold of the white tiger balm it doesnt stain clothing and works far better than the cinnamon coloured one. It will say on the top of the paper packaging if it is white.

I had heard lots of excellent reports about tiger balm and as I dont like to take tablets, thought I would try it for a headache. I did exactly as instructed and it nearly blew my head off. If I thought I had a headache before applying it, I certain had one after. I was crying with the pain - it was agony!! Never ever again will I touch tiger balm.
I know this goes against what everyone else is saying but it is my experience and tiger balm obviously does not agree with everyone.

  • Hello,
Yes i have used bothe the white version and the red version. It is good to rub onto the back for muscle ache however, it is difficult to get out of the jar (its only little). Mine cost 20p each as i bought them on holiday in India where they are very popular!

Muscle aches, strains, bruises, headaches, colds, mozzie bites......... it gets used for all these in our house. Just don't put it on broken skin!
I prefer the white stuff, just because it doesn't stain like the red. My MIL gets it for us on her annual trips to Goa, it's about 20p a pot.
  • Tiger balm comes in 2 strengths. The red being stronger than the white. The Nutricentre sell both at £4.39 for red and £4.19 for white. https://www.nutricentre.com/pages/search.aspx?search-catalog=Products&search-phrase=tiger+balm
  • Rose, I find paracetamol useless for treating my headaches and as I take dozens of prescribed medication (including strong painkillers) I prefer to use 4Head. It is a herbal remedy, I htink it contains Eucalyptus oil or something similar from the smell. You twist it until the "stick" appears and then rub it along your forehead and temples. It really works on my headaches but like Tiger balm, make sure you don't get it anywhere near the eyes or else they water like hell. You can buy 4Head in supermarkets, Boots etc

I haven't used Tiger Balm in years, I used to use it to treat my migraines. Must try and remember to buy it again sometime soon.

  • 4head contains Levomenthol and is very similar to the old Menthol cones just more expensive.
Menthol cones maybe avilable from an independent chemist.

ahhh TigerBalm .... we use it on a lot of things here ... but never used it for head aches! Must try it next time!

Works a treat in bruises and hard skin too. My Mum had really really hard and cracked skin on the soles of her feet ... results of a 3 month holiday where she was always barefoot  2 nights ... just 2 nights with TigerBalm (the red one, we find it works better even though it does stain) and her feet were back to normal .. by the 4th night ... well, like a babies bottom she said :D Worked a treat on my feet too when they got burnt by the sand :o just make sure you put on a pair of old socks before you get into a bew with white linen!

Went to Vietnam recently and got it on sticky strips (same stuff, different brand) so it is much easier to use ... just stick it on my back when I have aches!
I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....

How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!

I thunk I've made you think for a minute!

  • I bought some in Poundland and it is EXACTLY the same as the one I had bought previously in my chinese supermarket..same brand..packaging etc. Excellent stuff.
