.
That's not actually true. There are (usually) a lot more fields available to a trained insurance operative than are provided to the general public. That's why you can be declined a quote online but get one easily when you call.
Certain cars/circumstances can benefit from having a quote over the phone rather than online.0 -
Certainly not available to the monkeys at morethan.... (not exactly what you'd call trained)0

If it's any help, I have always managed to get the online quote down by calling the insurance company and haggling. I have got free legal cover and stuff thrown in too if I persisted, rather than paying £25 for it.0

Actually, every question and aspect of the quote affects the price.
Location, mileage, make and model of the car, your marital status, employment......................... i could go on.
It is entirely possible that an automatic could cost more with some insurers.0 -
What car do you have? I can't imagine that for £395 it's terribly powerful....
Infact, I'm in basically the same position as you. My car (Rover 100) was £395, insured a couple of months before my 22nd birthday and my insurance is only £421 a year on a provisional license. The only difference being that my car is a manual. I can't think why on earth that would make it 4x more expensive though!0 -
Because it's not just about the car.
Location, occupation, driving history, age, are all huge factors.
It may be that drivers of automatics have been shown to have more accidents, or to have accidents that cost more to fix. If that's the case, then there is a higher risk in someone driving an automatic. Add that to the other factors, and the cost can rocket.0 -
the cheapest quote i have been able to find since was £900 for a peugoet 106.....now i just have to actually find one!0

Afraid it doesn't work like that! The exact amount you pay will depend on the exact car you have. I've had two Clios in the same reg, similar mileage and paid very different amounts of insurance on them.No longer using this account for new posts from 20130
