Any brand new mobile of your choice for £20

I was looking at mobile phones on Ebay and one person was advertising this website. He didn't want anyone to bid or pay him, just use his referral code if they registered on the site:

(Ive removed the website link as I don't want to encourage people to get involved in these schemes. Essentially it was a pyramid scheme whereby you pay £20 (supposedly for a cdrom), choose the phone you want and your name is put onto the bottom of the list. Once more and more people are recruited into the scheme your name moves up and when you reach the top you get your phone. How likely is this! ???)

Has anyone else had experience of something like this? Will it take years before you get a mobile?

Here is the link to his Ebay listing:

I don't think you should be advertising that scam link here!
  • It's a scam and a half. Watch out for the more lucrative IPod for 20 quid one on EBay as well. They "sell" you the "information" to get an IPod for 20 pound.

Perhaps eBay have finally decided to do something about these scammers <http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/mlm.html> , new policy from today :)

Maybe not any better than the ones that parade their 'link' as the actual item on Ebay (with a bit of small print saying that the bid is for 'information' rather than a phone). Imagine asking for a price for the link?! :P

I was watching one Ebay auction yesterday, and some misguided souls were willing to pay up to £101 for information on how to buy a Nokia 6260 mobile phone for £20! By the same time today, the auction had ended, and the winner was willing to pay £247 for the information! :o

I think you can get the phone legitimately from an online store for about £300. Makes me queasy just thinking about it...!

That's heartening news about the new policy, LongDongDave, I hope it makes a difference! :)

... the seller gets no money, and a bill from ebay for % of final price , which he may find it difficult to claim back

After I posted above I suddenly realised that I may be helping the ebay seller to advertise this scheme! :o I hope no one reading this actually does decided to participate in this £20 for a mobile phone! It is so likely to come to nothing! Total waste of £20 if you ask me.

I have reported this to Ebay but I don't suppose they will do anything about it.

I don't think that link is working for me! It says "page not found"
