Accomodation wise, I went to Las Americas in April 2004 and we stayed at Laguna Park 1, this was in the quieter area of Las Americas, it was very clean, nice low floors self catering apartments or on site hb available if you wanted. Salt water pool & kids club + evening entertainment.

There was loads of local pubs/resturants for really good well priced food and a really BIG super market in a small precinct about 250 yards away from hotel. 15min downhill walk to beach and more lovely resturants. (Can't you tell we enjoyed the food). Lots of good local attractions and cheap car hire.

Very good hols - went with direct holidays direct from Brum well worth the money.

    Happy hols/

We stay in the Green Golf apartments which are 4 star. They're available from Direct holidays and we've had some good deals going in July but by September the prices tend to increase - I know, it sounds odd. You can also book apartments directly and they were about £50 a night for a 2 bedroom place, probably different now though.
  • Let us know when you want to go,

where you want to fly from,

how long you want to stay,

and what type of accommodation you fancy

and i will have a look for you. I have been going to tenerife 4 times a year for over 10 years. Oh and i'm of in 5 weeks again.

Thanks am looking to go from gatwick for 2 weeks on 5th of September. In- laws are staying at the tenerife princess although I would prefer to go self catering, at moment can't seem to find anywhere self catering under £1000. Have been looking at the andorra apts or the compostella beach booking flight and accommodation seperately. I am concerned that if I book privately am stuck with the room I have booked, but if I book with a tour operator you can occassionally change rooms if it is noisy. I have been here before and stayed at the columbus which was really noisy. I like the look of the mediteranean hotel but a bit pricey. Would it be a good idea to book flights now? and leave accommodation till later as there seems to be a lot of accommodation around? Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I have just had a look at BA's flight prices, I got £228.60 for all 3 of you that's TOTAL, not EACH! (I assume your baby will still be an infant by next year.)

The charter airlines aren't always cheaper, we flew with BA this August to Tenerife and they were £500 cheaper (we have 3 kids) than XL Airways. Plus you get all your food and drinks, including alcohol free.

I would recomend doing a search for your own accommodation. There are lots of web sites that cater for the independant traveller. Or try getting hold of Dalton's Weekly, there will be lots of apartments or villa's in there to rent.

If you visit Holiday Truths, go to the Tenerife forum and I think you will probably find some property owners there who you could enquire with or there may be seperate forum on the website specifically for holiday rentals, try both!

    Happy hunting!!

Good things come to those who wait......... but the best will be taken by those who got there first ;)

  • BA flights are coming up at £375.60 for 5/9/06 - 19/9/06 but if you go on 6/9/06 return 20/9/06 they are only £228.60, the same as I quoted above.

Compostela beach can be found here

However, for the same price you could have your own villa with a pool.

    Castle Harbour here looks nice!

Or this looks good, and is a fantastic price. I stay near this area in a villa, and I love it. But you would need to hire a car to get to PDLA although I believe the buses are excellent.

I always book car hire through Nizacars website directly and they are really cheap. You should be able to get something for well under £100. We hired a Merc A Class for a month and that was only £400, some places want nearly that for a week for the same car!

Anyway, you could also try this website for apartments, I only just found it but it looks quite good.

yeah i got £375 with Ba and they were afternoon flights.

But https://www.xl.com have morning flights leaving about 11.00am

    2 weeks is £333
that is for the 3 of you.

Also on the xl page i put in a promotion code 'telegraph' which gave me an extra £30 of.

Now if i was you and i wanted to go next sept, i would book the flights now, then i would search for accommodtion during next year. That is just my way of working it.

January this year, i booked 20 flights for March next year 2006, and we hadn't even gone on our March 2005 holiday when i booked next years flights. Accommodation is always available. And can be viewed later on. But flights do go up. And i would be more than happy with these prices. I paid £150 for 1 week when i go back 11th nov.

    Anymore help just ask.

Oh and how old will your baby be on the day that you travel that is important.
  • Chris is right, flights are best booked as early as possible to secure the best price. And it's important to remember what age your baby will be on the day you return from your holiday.

Talking personally, I prefer BA to XL as scheduled flights (ie. BA) are less likely to be changed, where as chartered (ie. XL) can get changed.

I've travelled with XL twice in the past year. The first time they changed our flight time by a little under 12 hours, the second time they bumped other people onto our flight, meaning the poor souls, on their way home from their hols, were left in Tenerife airport all day waiting to be put on the next available flight. Some had got on earlier flights but ours was an evening flight and they'd been there since the morning. If the price difference was large then it's worth going with them, but if not, personally I'd chose BA, if only for the free wine!! ;)

BA flights less likely to get changed is a myth..have a look at how many flights they cancel every day!. If BA are cheapest then run with it but be under no illusions..they are no better than the charters these days. BMI now fly schedules to Tenerife too. There's even talk of Ryanair doing it and Jet2.
At the minute Mytravel have the flights for £407 or a package at £800 (2 adults 1 Child).
    Timmay!
  • In my own personal experience I've flown with BA countless times, internationally, european and domestic and have never had a flight time changed. Flown with XL twice, and had my flight change once and other travellers had their flight changed on to mine. I would however like to point out, I have never had flight times changed with other airlines, tour operators either. But I also realise nothing is infaliable. In which case one needs to make an educated gamble on what service they are willing to pay for.

I only speak from my own personal preference down to my experiences, but all in all I think BA do a pretty good service over the rest. However, I'm sure some would say otherwise!

BA In my opinion provide value for money, and they are not expensive either when you compare them to so called budget airlines such as My Travel for flights (who I've also flown with and were very good.)

You do also need to take into consideration the onboard service ie. free meals and drinks as this all adds up and also what other charges are tacked on ie. booking fees, cc charges, seat booking etc.

I personally don't like BA having only used them 3 times and all 3 times i have had my flights delayed.

I have flown to Tenerife 3 times just last year and i never once had my flight delayed going out. But we were delayed for 40 mins on 1 return.

I'm not that bothered about 'free' food, drink etc, because nothing is free in this world.

But flights are all down to personal experience.
