Basically it sounds like theres an open order for broadband on the line.

A tag is something that will prevent an order going through with another supplier. What you need to do is to find out from BT if the order is complete or still open. If its still open then they need to ring their Order Management Desk and get them to cancel it. Shouldn't take more than 24hrs for it to update on the systems.

If the order is closed then it means theres a service on the line. 2 options here, BT can generate the MAC for the service & you can take it to sky. Or you can ask for it to be ceased off the line, this will take 5 working days to complete.

Remember also to query that if you're cancelling that you won't be liable for any penalty charges for cancelling the contract early. As you've never had the broadband service i don't think there will any for it specifically but double check just to make sure.

You might find this link handy although the information has been watered down recently. It used to have a direct line to BT where you could sort this sort of thing out with the guys who know. Now it just seems to have a generic 0800 number...
