MBNA - has anyone else had this happen?

Have two MBNA cards (virgin 12k and A&L 6k) and Virgin offered 6months at 0.9% so thought I'd apply for credit limit increase before taking advantage of this. They suspended my accounts after running credit check and about a week later I got letter that this was as a result of the way my account had been run or adverse info on credit file - letter seemed to me to be witten in somewhat snide tone.
No late payments on any of my cards since I got my first about 18months ago so put this down to £50k outstanding on other cards (equivalent to total yearly income). This was confirmed when I phoned and I was told that to re-instate, my debt would need to drop to no more than 10-15k.
I've sent details showing savings over £130k but not holding my breath on this one. Think I've pushed a bit too hard and should've been happy with the 18k for 6 months at 0.9%0
