I'm flying with them for the first time next week.I think I'll take some earplugs!

Thanks for the information about 'online check-in'.I was confused why I only got a boarding pass for the outward journey, now I understand why!

It would help if their system didn't grind to a snail's pace at least once a day though.

I suggested to Ryan Air that they should at least let you PRINT a boarding card for the return journey at the same time as your outward journey (as that will often be the biggest barrier for people at their destination - printing facilities) - i.e. do all the printing before you leave home and then just re-confirm for the return journey at the destination (which could even be automated via phone)

    Never got as response though.

It's not really Ryanair's fault though is it ? Seems more that it's a problem with Firefox v3. Perhaps you should change the title of the thread ?

I could, but then someone flying with Ryanair using Mozilla v.3 might not look at it, and I haven't actually said anything is Ryanair's fault...

I believe it's useful for ANYONE travelling with Ryanair to know that if they select the online check-in option, unless they're travelling for 5 days or less, then they'll need access to the internet and a printer whilst on holiday to check in online for the return flight.

You only find this out when you click the "check-in" button, as it's not written in the print out bit when you buy the tickets (that would be useful Ryanair!!), so often you find out too late, as it's not like you're thinking about checking in at the time you buy the ticket, a few weeks in advance...

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Hi.
I'm going to Dublin for the day on Nov 8th. I've done a Online Check-In.
I've never done this before so I need to know how it works.
I know I can print off my boarding pass within 5 days to 4 hours before I depart, so I'll print it off early.
What happens about the Return. Can I print that off at the same time or do I need to do that in Dublin when I get there?

So Ryan Air are responsible for checking every type of browser to make sure its compatable with there system, and tell you about it at the time you buy your tickets?

What about when the browser version is released after you buy the tickets?

I can't see that this is Ryan Airs fault in anyway.

(Don't get me wrong I'm no great fan of Ryan Air, but you can't blame them for this)

You can print both off before you leave, so long as it is in the five day limit.

Of course they are, or at least obliged to put a warning before the check in process saying ie. only like many other sites do (once they find out about the fault obviously) which their IT team should spot pretty sharpish if they are on the ball. The web page was done by someone qualified to do it, it did not just appear. They have a responsibility to run their site just like running a checkout on in a normal shop. If it happened very soon after the release of M3 they are not responsible as the release was buggy and should never have been alowed out of beta. Maybe it is fixed now with the recent updates.

You need your confirmation number and credit/debit card number or your email address and date of flight then click on Online Check In. Input either of the options and it will bring up your booking. You'll need to have to hand your passport and the passport details of all passengers travelling on your booking as it will ask you to input passport number, expiry date etc. Just follow the instructions and print out both journeys at the same time. Sometimes the website can be busy although I've never found it bad through the day but I generally do the check in 3/4 days before the flight.

Having your boarding pass means you just go straight to the gate, in Dublin this means bypassing all the check in desks and heading for the very back of the hall to go through security and then the shops and departure gates. I can recommend a hot chocolate in Butlers Chocolate Cafe before you head to your gate, there is a 10 minute walk from this point to the Ryan Air gates.

On arrival at Dublin to the left hand side of the exit you'll find a Dublin Bus booth where you can buy a Family Rambler Day ticket for 10 Euros (you don't require kids to be a family) this ticket will cover your return journey on the Airport Express bus, 747/748 and any bus you use throughout the day but not the tour buses.

Do a search of Dublin on the travel board and you'll find lots of suggestions of things to do, its a lovely city for a day trip, I'm going again on Monday.:j

Who said anything about blame? (other than you... )

I was merely pointing out to anyone flying that should they leave their check-in until quite late, like I did (and often do), they should be warned that Mozilla V3 wouldn't work, and to use another browser.

Had it said on Ryanair's web page "Don't use Mozilla V.3", then I wouldn't have used it, and would have had no problems whatsoever. One would like to think that a popular airline like Ryanair, who incourages people to check in online, would do their research first, given how popular Mozilla is.

Anyway, doesn't matter now, as it now works with V.3!

lfc4eva08, when are you returning? If it's within 5 days, it'll let you check in for the return flight at the same time. If you're going for over 5 days, then you'll have to check in during the week, so will require access to a computer and printer.

If you're taking advantage of Ryanair's nice cheap flights and want to use the check in on-line option, then:

    1) You can't use Mozilla Firefox Version 3, as it won't let you view and print the boarding pass.

    2) You can check in up to 5 days before your flight, but must do it at least 4 hours before your flight time at the latest.

It would be nice if they'd tell you all this BEFORE you try and do it,

Fair point about Mozilla, though I wonder what percentage of people use it other than 'techy IT' people compared to Explorer for example.

They DO tell you about the online check-in time parameters when you make the booking, in the FAQ's and in the online check-in area. In hindsight maybe, not leavng it to the last minute and taking time to the read the site would have been wiser and avoided the extra costs incurred.

Due the number of browsers people can use plus the different versions it's impossible for an IT team to check that their site is compatible with every single one.

What normally happens is the site is checked with versions of IE, a stable version of firefox and maybe with text readers.

In decent companies when a few non-disabled customers complain they can't access the site with a different browser and browser version the site is then checked with that browser and browser version.

It's not economically viable for a company to check that their site works with every single browser and version of that browser as there a lots of browsers out there, and while you can gather statistics on what your customers use they are not that accurate. It's also not economically viable to change the site for one non-disabled customer's complaint.

If you think Ryanair are not on the ball then maybe you would prefer them like a few other companies to state their website works best with browsers and versions that are so old that they are obsolete. So if the site doesn't work then tough.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
