Made to measure suits for £169

I'm quite concerned about what i've been reading on this thread! I recently made an appointment to be measured by Raja-Fashions earlier this month. I was charged 6600 hong kong dollars for one suit (this equates to £450.) I've not received my suit yet (i was told it would be 4-6 weeks) but i think i'm going to get in touch. In view of this, I would advise all moneysavers to have confirmed how much the prices are before they get measured.
Good luck!

£450!!! you're having a laugh...
i had 3 cashmere wool suits made to measure at a brilliant tailors in Bangkok for £100 each, though this was 6 years i doubt if prices have gone a great deal...the place was recommended by British airways and some tour guidesStevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60 -
Royal Steve,
No need to rub it in mate! Having read the other posts and recalling my experiences, I do feel like i've been somewhat ripped off by raja fashions. I don't expect i'm going to get cashmere wool either. The only specification i was offered was medium weight or light weight. I chose medium weight. Truth is I don't know what material i'm getting! I'm currently emailing rajafashions because I don't believe they offered me the whole choice of materials they had available - ie the cheaper materials. Had i known that I could have chosen a different material and got a 2pc suit for £169. I would have done this! The whole point of me going to them was because i thought they were cheap. Primarily, I wanted a good fit - material was second.
I'll let you all know how Raja Fashions respond (if your interested).Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
So far so good!
I emailed Raja Fashions telling them that basically i felt a bit cheated because I felt like they'd pushed a more expensive material on to me.
In my email, I mentioned at the end that I was going to post the outcome of the situation on this forum too.
They've replied asking me to visit them in February where they will do special deal for me. What it is, I don't know yet but so far its better than nowt, i'm sure you'll agree!
I'll be sure to let you know what the special deal entails. God bless the power of Martin's website and t'internet.

I suppose the main downside is taking jobs away from British workers,
Tell that to all the Indian Cotton Workers during the time of the British Raj >:(! The Ignorance (or arrogance?) of the British really gets my back up sometimes.....but anyway thats another issue........ ;D
Raja Fashions will be visiting Cambridge in March so i'll be visiting them for a measure up. My Mate in Birmingham swears by them. They are supposed to be excellent.

My dad flies to Bangkok a few times a month, does anyone know a place that will measure me for a bespoke suit that he can order and collect there for me and bring back?
Or is that just too much hassle/unreliable and I should hold out for this raja service and order through them (bit worried about the import duties/VAT though)?0 -

https://www.ravistailor.com has a checklist of measurements required and how to take them, so you could get this done yourself. Alternatively a tailor might do it for you though you'd probably be charged for it. All in all it's best to meet the tailor and be measured personally, because he can make necessary adjustments for an exact fit. If you just give a tailor measurements, you'll get something like a good fitting off the peg suit instead.0 -

Gadget Freak, I see your point, but what I really meant was that a small British Savile Row type tailor will always give a better service than someone in the far east, simply because he meets you face to face, and the growth of services like Raja tailors means these will be unlikely to be able to compete.0 -
I have been using raja for over two years and initially I wanted to see how good his suits are. I can honestly say that I have over six suits from him, a DJ and some shirts and the are well worth the money.
However, be prepared to haggle as the £169 suits bog standard clothes in dodgy colour :P which, if you're not happy with they will try to move you on to the expensive stuff where they bump the price up.
Know how much you want to spend, don't be afraid to tell them and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. I think you should be able to get a decent suit of your choice for around £275.0 -
I have used Raja Fashions. The headline price is a come-on for suit made up with cheap polyster fabric. The price of decent material puts price way up. My suit did not come back with proper fit and had to wait until their next visit to return it and have new measurements done.
Some time after I have suit which is perfect fit but took quite a long time to get sorted, In other respects they are very professional in prompt reply to e-mails and the like. But I think if I have made to measure in future, will get it done on the spot - and will haggle like mad.0 -
Yes you are charged duty, but the price you pay Raja includes that, at least it did when I bought my suit.
Interesting that someone said the £169 suits are polyester - as far as I can tell mine is a reasonably good linen/manmade blend, but it might be worth asking what exactly the material is. I ordered a pure cotton suit once from an online tailors, Ravistailor, and I'm pretty sure that is NOT pure cotton.0
