  • thanks for the info guys

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
  • My partner uses a Hong Kong based tailor for all his shirts. http://www.ravistailor.com
We have only used them on the internet and delivery times have varied from 2 weeks to 6 weeks. You have to get someone to help with the measuring, but we had a good laugh when the order line asked if we were sure of the sizes as they were unusual measurements.
He is big on the neck and short on the arms.
As for customs charges we have never had any as they always put a very low value on the packaging label.
If you do order, order some samples then next time you will have an idea of the materials quality.
Give yourself plenty of time when placing that first order as the measuring, choosing styles and fabrics takes quite a while.
    Hope this helps.

  • For those who are interested, I made contact with Raja Fashions via email, and they are likely to be in Leeds in April 2005. Their website does not currently show a date.

    Hi All,

Got very exited when I read this thread. I too had suits tailor made in the far east recently by James' Tailors in Bangkok. I was delighted with the fit (after two fittings). I chose a high quality wool cashmere blend and for two suits (plus two extra trousers), six shirts and 7 silk ties I paid £290!

I normally buy of the peg from Next but not anymore! The tailors have all my measurements so if ever I need to have another suit made I just need to email them.

However, getting suits made for ladies is slightly more complicated as there are more curves, if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, the savings still justify having them tailor made.

As me paps said to me " You should always have two good things in life a trusted barbor and a good suit!"
"I think I spent 72.75% of my life last year in the office. I need a new job!!"
  • That Times article is good, but the journalists obviously got better treatment. I didn't get to meet Mr Daswani, I was dealt with by a minion who was somewhat brusque. When I got the suit the trousers were an inch too long, but I just took them up myself. Overall though its an excellent service but I'd go for a cheap suit first so that they can get your measurements right.

    Thanks for this post.

I am starting a new job in January and was planning on spending a few hundred pounds on some new suits "off the peg".

I will certainly be looking into an appointment. ;)

  • I'm quite concerned about what i've been reading on this thread! I recently made an appointment to be measured by Raja-Fashions earlier this month. I was charged 6600 hong kong dollars for one suit (this equates to £450.) I've not received my suit yet (i was told it would be 4-6 weeks) but i think i'm going to get in touch. In view of this, I would advise all moneysavers to have confirmed how much the prices are before they get measured.

    Good luck!

  • The £169 suit was a basic one on a special offer in the Evening Standard - so yes, be very clear about how much you are going to be charged and make sure you get a receipt.

Check the fabrics carefully as well. I thought the linen I ordered was pure linen, but I'm pretty sure it's a blend. This is not really a problem but if you're fussy about these things it's best to ask.

I was told my suit would take up to six weeks to arrive, it actually arrived in two weeks though.
  • My husband has had suits made by these people. The quality is beautiful and the fit excellent. He also has shirts made to measure by them. Their prices range from low to high, so for a very good quality fabric expect to pay more. I would highly recommend them. They do puts ads in the national press when they are over here.
