On 15/05/06, I bought a Samsung LE32R74BD LCD T.V from you for £1049 which has a Fault.
The problem is that I have recently purchase Playstaiton 3 when trying to connect it through the HDMI source I can’t get a picture to display, I then thought it could be the lead so I paid out £40 for a new lead still the same problem, I then tried my Playstation 3 on another LCD television which worked with no problems.
I sent a letter to comet telling them of the problem and they wanted £30 just to look at my television. I then sent another letter telling them that i am not going to pay £30 to look at my telly so i isuied a final letter before action letter. The response was good they said they would come and have a look at the T.V for free thought i was getting someware. On friday 20th June the tech came out and said it needed a new main pcb board.
I recieved a phone call today saying it was going to cost me £98.22 to fix my T.V I said i dont think thats fair as the t.v is only 2 years old and it should last longer than that when it cost £1049.
Is there anyone that can give me advice on what i can do next

You could try asking the advice of your local Trading Standards, as under the Sale and Supply of Goods Act the 'durability' aspect is a possibility.
I take it that it was just a standard 12 month guarantee? If I'd been paying out that much I'd have either tried to haggle for a better guarantee or seriously considered an extended guarantee - but that might well have cost more than the £98.22 repair fee.
Good Luck! Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Im sure there is a problem with Samsung TV's and PS3 via HDMI i would google and look.
BTW you really paid over the odds for the cable , £40 for a cable is a rip off a £5 HDMI cable will do the same job as a £40 one as its a digital signal0 -
A positive element is that u may be able to argue the 6 yr reasonable use.
The just of it is that items even if they are guarenteed for 12 months only, and they are expected to reasonably last in the case off spending over 1k on a tv, the company are liable for 6 yrs.xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

That's not correct at all. The Sale of Goods Act requires goods to be of satisfactory quality. One of these requirements is that it is durable.
The 6 year period is the limitation period under the Limitation Act 1980 within which you are required to issue proceedings for a contractual claim. It does not require goods to last for 6 years.
The only guidance is that the durability must be reasonable in all of the circumstances - i.e. top-end goods would be expected to last longer than cheap and cheerful.0 -

Completely agree.
A quick and easy way to save 80-90% on "Digital" interconnect cables is NOT to buy the over-priced, gold-plated, teflon-braided, jewel-encrusted (etc etc.) cables.
I'm pretty sure they have to meet minimum standards to even use the HDMI logo. On digital signals (as Deanos states) the stnadard £5 cables are perfectly adequate. (Unlike the old analogue days where a £10 SCART lead would show visible quality improvment over a £2.99 one)
So as a final plea MSE'rs, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't wast your money if you need to buy HDMI/DVI cables - you certainly don't need to spend over about £10-£15!
MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

thanks for the quick response looks like i'm going to be Even more out of pocket just so frustrating having paid over grand on a telly that you got to pay more out after 2 years i supose it could be worse.
The one thing that rely gets on my nerves is that they said i should have fully tested the telly in the first year. Thats all well and good but i had nothing to test the HDMI input. Does this mean you need to buy a extra equipment just to test all the inputs on your new TV!!!!!!
so going into comet to buy a t.v could and up costing thousands of pounds0 -

Don't get me wrong, I think you still have rights if you can reasonably expect it to last more than 2 years. Which I think you can!
Did you pay by credit card? If so, they remain jointly and severally liable with Comet and may be a path of least resistance.0 -
I'd still take it up with Comet on the Sale of Goods act, as you'd expect the HDMI input to last more than 2 years, and if you've never used it before, then it was obviously faulty to begin with, so they should repair it for free.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
