Oh, and no doubt someone will be along to say it's a bad idea because you'll suck in all the rubbish at the bottom of the tank. :p

Very true - and you get condensation in the tank !!!! :p:p

I was once a bit stuck for diesel and did about 50miles with the light on, eventually found a station and filled up with 72L - the tank is 80L!

As already said you can suck up the crap at the bottom of the tank if you run dry. Also, on some vehicles you'll have to bleed the fuel pump

wouldnt recommend running it dry, it stirs up all the gunge which has settled over time from the bottom of the tank. possibly cost you a lot of money in thelong run for repairs

    Told you. :p
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Isn't the fuel filter supposed to catch all the crap before it does any damage? You might clog the filter, but it will only be about £10 for the filter.

I run my tank down to low virtually every time. I've run out 2 times in the last year, but managed to coast to the nearest petrol station both times. When I swapped the tanks over I found no "gunk" in the bottom of the tank.
    Happy chappy
