Just a bit of further info. My last quarter March to June 08, both taken from accurate readings has put my elec usage at 4209 units for 91 days. 126 @ 0.22708p ansd 4083 @ 0.09822p.

That consumption would be unbelievably high.

However it is very probable that consumption is based on an Estimated meter reading(almost certainly the start reading in March) and you are simply 'catching up' for previous under-estimated readings.

Hi Cardew, the readings given were both accurate readings given by us. Our ele mete is out the back we always make the meter man stand at the door why we read it.

I am tearing my hair out ????? How can I be using 46 units per day, 5 times the national average.

Is it a digital read out? or one of those with little dials? The latter are very easy to misread as the dials run clockwise and anti-clockwise.

Why do you read it and not the meter man? I am surprised he lets you read the meter!

It is almost impossible to use that amount of electricity without using heating. It would also be very easy to check simply by watching your meter.

Switch eveything off and see if the meter is moving then switch things on.

The only other thing is a faulty meter - although that is extremely rare!

With two 13 stone Great danes he always seems rather reluctant to come in ???!!!! Srange
Anyway, the meter is digital, so I don't see how i can be reading it wrong. What typical things, especially if faulty, will eat electricity and how can I tell with a digi meter as there is no spinning dial to determine how fst its spinning ???

    Thanks for your continued help

Does it not have a flashing light?

With everything off overnight you should use very little electricity so check last thing and first thing.

Switch off everything for a couple of hours(even fridge/freezer) and monitor readings and see if your neighbour is using your electricity - or you are running the street lights.

Seriously, it will be very easy to trace consumption of that magnitude - no sort of appliance will come close to using 46kWh a day.

We're seemingly paying a similar amount for our small 3 bed semi - I think it' s the greenhouse + shed heaters and the electric towel rail in the bathroom. £195 a month now, it's a joke.
