K just to get this straight, hubby is receiving childcare vouchers (how much if you dont mind me asking) and you are receiving the difference to possibly make it up to the 80%?

Will be in your position soon Gill, so would be great to know!

The hubby will be receiving the max £243 worth of childcare vouchers per month. (It would be stupid not to)

For £243 worth of vouchers, a deduction of £167.67 will come off his salary, regardless of how much he earns. (Upto £41k anyway where 40% taxation kicks in where the difference will be more)

If they have £500pm childcare costs, they will put down on the form, costs of £257pm (Well the weekly amount anyway, £257x12/52 = £59pw)

Now depending on income, they will receive a proportion of this back upto a maximum of 80%. (80% of £257 = £205.60)

So they will still pay £167.67 + £51.40 (£257-£205.60) = £219.07 out of their own pockets for £500 childcare costs.

However, the O.P will not receive anywhere near the 80% as her hubby earns a good wage (£25k). I doubt they'll even get half of the 80% in fact, its dependant on income, ie it tapers away with the more you earn. 80% is only for the lowest earners, hubby is an average earner.
