If he is in the army maybe he has to pay for food and accomodation and it comes straight out of his wages. The op needs to clarify this.

If he is in the army maybe he has to pay for food and accomodation and it comes straight out of his wages. The op needs to clarify this.

She has mentioned he is a soldier, so if they are a married couple living in married quarters, this will be paid direct from his wage along with council tax.

Hence why he might be ''only'' taking home £1100:confused:

But that is 'Irish' thinking and is completely irrelevant as his actual take home is well over £1500. Its just the military deduct it straight from wage to save them from having to pay it later. The £1100 therefor does not exist, well it does so after accomodation and council tax charges.

Tax credit awards do not work like that:rotfl:Imagine everyone in the country deducted their housing and council tax costs aswell and then declared what they had left over.

This is why the op needs to clarify her husbands annual salary not deducting any payments for accomodation etc.
  • Your options are :

Increase your working hours by 2 or 3 a week, mayby add another shift or get a cleaning job for 2 hours a week

Wade it out until your son is 3 and is eligible for the LEA grant, this will reduce your childcare cost

Give up work or work in the evening until your son starts school

An intresting note, I wonder if tax credits can PROVE how many hours you work a week?

Do you get lunch break at work? I wonder if you could include this in the hrs worked?
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

Just a quick note, you cannot claim childcare through TC and salary sacrafice for childcare vouchers. It's 1 or the other.

I suspect with a £25k income, you wouldn't be entitled to childcare costs through TC anyway, so the voucher scheme would be more beneficial to you.
  • GillzD,
I work for Sodexo Pass, who supply the childcare voucher scheme to the MOD. As you are having difficulty claiming WTC, I think it is a good idea for you to consider the childcare voucher scheme.

you mentioned that your husband would not benefit financially from the scheme, but as he earns around £25k he should be able to make some savings. - up to £857 in fact! To find out exactly how much you can save, based on your own personal circumstances, you can visit the HMRC Childcare Indicator: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs/ccin.htm

By signing up to the MOD childcare voucher scheme, your husband can swap anywhere between £30 and £243 of his monthly salary for childcare vouchers. For more information about the scheme, why not have a look at www.MODchildcare.co.uk - this website gives you all of the information you need to decide about joining the scheme, as well as the forms you need to do so.

If you would like to talk to someone about the scheme, you can contact our customer care team 24 hrs on 0800 066 5075. While our team are happy to answer any questions you have, we are unable to offer financial recommendations.

    I hope this helps you,

    Charlotte

got my hours upped by 5 hours per week so can now afford to work! now people have explained how the vouchers work it makes sense to me now that we will not be out of pocket. the reason i said £1100 is because it is his take home pay it is what we have to live off of for the month. we are getting vouchers from hubby and the rest we have applied for from tax credits as they said they will make up the deficit. only problem is they pay in arrears and the chilcare has to be paid for up front in advance so i need to find £600 by the 8th or we are stuffed once again! anyone fancy robbing a bank with me? or any other ideas?

Are you 110% sure about this?

I dont believe that you can use BOTH:confused:

Can someone else confirm, deny this??? I think you need to get this checked out because there are lots of people who have fallen into this trap and are now in arrears of thousands.

What are your salary details? £25k+???
