  • This is similar to the Taste Card that has just be posted with a free 3 month trial.

There are two levels of membership, Standard (£49.95 per year) and Platinum (£85.95 per year). Both levels get you reduced meal charges when two people dine at the member restaurants.

The Platinum level has a more extensive list of restaurants which are generally more up market and in some cases you can use the card at restaurants when the Standard card is not allowed, e.g. Saturdays.

Some of the restaurants only allow the card to be used once per year. However, Platiinum members are also provided with a free Standard card so it is possible to go twice a year to some restaurants. It is beoming more and more likely now that the restaurant will not mark the card and therefore the restriction is not always enforced.

It is easy to make savings of between £15 and £25 pounds per use and therefore the membership fee can recovered very quickly.

The organisation started off in the North West of England but is rapidly expanding to become nation wide.

All members also receieve a restaurant handbook which lists all the member restaurants and any restrictions to use that they may have along with a guide to their cost levels. This itself is worth a significant part of the membership fee. It is therefore possible to discover restaurants that might not have been obvious otherwise.

Details of the offerings and a search facility for member restaurants can be found on the organisations web site which cab be found by searching for "hi-life diners club' at Google

    Hope this is of use.

    Cheers

  • I've not seen this mentioned on the main page or the forums. To register for Organge Wednesdays you do not need to text 241 at a cost of 35p. If you phone 241 it's free!

    Hi
I choose not to eat Halal meat. Its a personal thing and I do not judge those who eat Halal meat for religious reasons. However A friend told me that Taybarns and the company that own them have admitted to using Halal meat for reasons of cost in their restaurants without informing customers. Apparently Toby Carvery were asked the same question and "declined to comment".
I like Toby Carvery but now I'm paranoid about where the meat comes from plus, if Taybarns are doing it how likely is it that other budget restaurants like e.g. Hungry Horse are doing the same?
Is there any way to check up on this?
Do other MSErs have any more info?
    thanks

Does anyone actually 100% know where any meat comes from?
Many packets say 100% british..... but i had a cow born and bred in england, and then was killed using the halal menthod... would it still be 100% britsh? yes... so what do we really know about any of it?

There are many contradicting arguments for and against halal meat, both on a non religious view.

For me, meat has been eaten since year dot. In year dot no doubt the animals were killed in very inhumane ways. When the animal is dead, it is dead. No more pain is felt.

If people cared as much about the real problems in life instead of how an animal, which has been bred to be killed, has died then I think the world will be better place

Can't argue with that last paragraph. But as for the rest, I wasn't alluding to the country of produce tho I admit that has a bearing for me too as we are improving our farming standards all the time.

However as I said, its purely a personal thing - a matter of taste. Didn't want to spark a philosophical discussion as I'm not sure this is the time or place :)
