Well done for working your way through the debt. To still be here 4 years on is brilliant... I will aspire to do the same.
Off to bed now.

Hi Ruby I just want to say a huge THANK YOU for mentioning life insurance and recommending lifesearch.co.uk yesterday. I just phoned for quotes and we are taking up new policies which give us much better cover AND cost £40/month less than we are currently paying. Why did I put this off for so long?!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Hi Seaxwyn, that is brilliant news!! I am glad they were able to help you to, isn't it amazing the savings that can be made??
We should be on commission with them!!!

I'm glad a newbie like me was able to help you.
Kind regards

Hey guys, well after the high comes the low... today has been tough, tough, tough. OH and I have fallen out because I am becoming (am!!) obsessed with the detail of money saving.... He is right... but I'm not telling him that.
We've had words over his spending (only £20 for god sake, I have lost it!!) and believe it or not over how many choc bars the children have eaten and it is only Tuesday.
He has told me to stop talking about money for one night (but in much stronger words...)
I'm feeling guilty and a bit sad that I am taking it all to seriously... then on the other hand, mad that he isn't taking it AS seriously.
Anyone been here?

Yes! I have certainly been there. One of the worst things about debt is that it has turned me into a nag.
Have you tried out the snowball calculator on https://www.whatsthecost.com - if not have a look. Then that is a powerful way of showing your OH what a difference the odd £20 a week - or the price of all the chocolate bars - could make to how soon you will be debt-free.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Thanks Seaxwyn, I wouldn't dare for the next couple of days, but maybe one day. I do feel that I might be going overboard a bit, e.g. counting the lunchbox supplies is a bit severe...
Think I will try and chill a little...
Trouble is I feel like I have turned the corner and need to coax the rest of the family along with me.
Think I might change my sign on name to NAG!!!

Hi Ruby,
First of all congratulations:T :T . It is SO good to see a good news story.
I agree with Merlot's suggestion. Do post up a revised SOA - now that things are looking more healthy and you are more experienced with this sort of thing it may be possible to finesse some of your savings...
£20 does seem a lot a for chocolate bars but I'm guessing that isn't Mr Ruby's real point. It is probably more a frustration of working all week and not being able to enjoy any of it. Why not take some of that £60 surplus you have and go out on a cheapy "date" to the cinema, bowling or something similar?
Regards

thanks RedD
that is a good idea, I might well suggest it when we are next smiling at each other;)
The £20 wasn't on chocolate bars, he withdrew it from the cashpoint and it has been spent probably on cigs (even though he is supposed to be giving up..) I have never smoked so don't understand how hard it can be.... blah blah....
It is very early days for us and I am going to not let this take over the enjoyment aspect of our lives whilst still keeping focused.
Thanks for your reply. The good you do comes back to you.DFW Long haul supporters No: 134

Hi Ruby,
You're most welcome. If you have a look on the freebies boards then there are details on how to get free 10 pin bowling and allsorts. Not that you have to tell anyone.
As someone who has recently quit the nicotine I can assure you that it can be the most difficult thing someone will ever do so do give him plenty of space.
Oh, and your right - don't forget the enjoyment aspect otherwise you could end up debt free and very miserable

Thanks again... whilst sat here trying to chill I have realised that because we allocated £60 to the supermarket shop and only spent £36... the £20 can be covered.... (big sigh....)
