I am so pleased to reading this update, and I am pleased you have found much cheaper insurance as well, its a lesson for everyone, whilst IFA's are great at there jobs they also have to make money and that money comes from the premiums we pay.
You are sounding much more positive.

Hi Ruby
I remember when you first posted and I am so glad that you have managed to turn your situation around so successfully (or are in the process of). I am also really glad that you have hung around to share your progress, hugely motivating to hear how well you are doing
Well done:T£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

Thanks Merlot, you in particular helped me see that our mortgage and the insurances were the difference between coping today and having a life or struggling to keep everything going for a future date. Many thanks to you for being direct and straightforward. The good you do comes back to you.DFW Long haul supporters No: 134

Well done:T
I am going to be hanging around for a long time yet, but just cannot stress enough how talking to everyone on here has helped. As of today our spreadsheet says we have £60 excess per month when everything is paid.... :T :T that if it works out that way in practice will go towards the debts as well, but at least the books are balancing and for the time being a DMP is not needed.

Ruby, very kind of you to thank me. I don't normally like being too harsh, but I could see light at the end of the tunnel with you, it was the mortgage and the insurances, and I was in a similar situation as regards to having tons of insurances policies, sometimes it takes someone else to make one realise something they already knew.;)
Just make sure you have life insurance/assurance, building and contents insurance - they are an absolute must before any other insurance policies.

They are all in place but at much better rates (or will be when paperwork completed etc). I seem to have really chilled out about moving the mortgage back to int only.... when discussing with my best friend y'day she made me realise I was way to cautious to leave it like it for an unnecessary amount of time and that to do it for the next 5 yrs was absolutely fine.
Have you moved back to repayment now?The good you do comes back to you.DFW Long haul supporters No: 134

Yes I have moved back to repayment, I have been debt free for 4 years now and I am slowly overpaying my mortgage.
You can do this once you are debt free, even over paying the mortgage by £50 per month can reduce the interest and the overall term, let this spare you on to become debt free - I have every faith in you and you can do it.

Ruby, when you have time post an updated SOA, and we will take a further look at it for you. You never know one of the good people on this board may just find some cost cutting for you.
