Surely you can have a direct link through the 'referrals' board? That is not against MSE Posting Guidelines as you will have declared any personal interest.Plus - I notice that your site is fully endorsed by Martin Lewis. Can you not 'appeal' to the 'Forum Team' for your link to be treated in the same way that links to the Debt Counselling Charities are treated?

Martin doesn't sponsor the makesenseofcards website. I've never asked and he's never offered.
Then why not start talking now?I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Hi everybody.
Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.
What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.
If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.
what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?
firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.
The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!
It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis
PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.
Kind wishes

Hi Nomad.
That link does take you to a post about the SOA calculator but you have to follow through a trail of links on posts. The reason why it doesn't link directly to the calculator is because I wrote the calculator and it is on a site that I run. Linking to one's own website is against MSE posting guidelines. MF has posted the direct link to the calculator. I think it would be much more straightforward if there was a sticky post that linked directly to it, but that's for others to decide.
I'm glad that people are finding it useful.
Clariman
Hi ... useful? More than that - it's excellent, and must have been a Godsend to many who are trying to get their heads round their debt issues.
I am posting my 2p because I am not at all sure, based mainly on my experience of forums elsewhere tbh, that stickys work as intended, this site is immense, and from my short time here, it seems to me at least that the members (particularly newbies) ask the questions before they ever read ALL the stickys on this site - I haven't and I am sure I am far from alone.
Numpty for me has the answer - if existing members make the direct access link a favourite on IE, or as I have done, bookmarked it on Firefox - it is two seconds to link and then post the link - in the Thread where the member is asking the questions where the SOA is the next step - I am not sure diverting them to a sticky is as effective, not saying it is ineffective - but for a newbie - jsut being asked to click on the direct link in a post seems better than a sticky - do they even know what a sticky is - often not..
It also means (I think - don't know) it gets round the self promotion aspect that might otherwise arise - in that it is one member to another, one asking for help and the other telling where to find it.
Sorry - that was way over 2p lol, but posted in that detail - in part - to allow any Admin to hear some views.
You deserve great credit for the site, Clariman!

Then why not start talking [to Martin about sponsoring makesenseofcards] now?
There is no issue with others posting links to makesenseofcards, but posting links to a site that one has an interest in is against MSE rules and I try to respect them. ... when my enthusiasm for what we have created on makesenseofcards and the stoozing site doesn't overtake me!!

Just to get my priorities right - 21 [:rotfl: ] birthday bumps then:
MANY HAPPY RETURNS NUMPTY!
Thanks all for your suggestions on the SOA, I've done what you suggested Numpty.
I agree with the comments you have all raised.
Thanks for explaining what has puzzled me for a long time Clariman. The SOA not only helps DFW's put their finances down in a logical format, but from the newbie posts I have read, it helps them focus and direct their thinking in a more constructive way [as opposed to blind panic!]. I know it's been said before but congrats anyway andI'm glad that people are finding it useful.
I think this qualifies as the understatement of the year!0 -
Didn't know it was your birthday Numpty; ah hem..let me begin:
Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Numpteeeeee....
Happy Birthday to yoooooooooouuuuuuuuu
