Hi everybody.


Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.

What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.

If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.

what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?

firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.

The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!

It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.

Could you not get the mods to lock this message and attach it as a sticky? People wouldn't have to keep 'bumping' it all the time that way.

Thats a good idea, though after having a lurk in the House Price forum, I'd say you would have you work cut out knowing who was a troll and who wasnt in there. Phew, what a lot of arguments!

This board seems a lot more pleasant.

yes it can be a lot like that over there. the genuine trolls are pretty quickly noticeable. i tend to say here where it's nice in the main!!

Hi Topov and welcome, Some of the other boards can get quite heated, but we can still usually spot a troll a mile away. Join in with the daily chat thread and introduce yourself hun. and then we have a night owl thread where anyone can come and have a good old laugh or a darn good cry and know there is a virtual shoulder for you. We are all friendly on here and very protective of our posters. It wont take long to find your feet hun. And if you do have anyone having a go then come onto this thread and let us know. And please dont take anything a troll says personally. They are just bored sad people with nothing else to do. x x x x x

Thanks, smashedbooboo. I have used vBulletin forums before (football mainly) and have seen some humdinger arguments and troll attacks. I imagine its more serious here though because people open themselves up more when they discuss their financial problems and so trolls can really get under their skin.

There is not much personal info to give away on the football forums, except which team you support and as I support the Champions of England and Europe, there isnt much you can say about that team to upset me
