Notice to newcomers re trolls.
Hi everybody.


Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.

What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.

If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.

what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?

firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.

The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!

It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.

By the time your 'ABUSE team LOOK into it' some desperate poster could have slit there wrists.

Two days, one poster, PPR'ed 3 times previously, 14 hours before the fourth reincarnation was PPR'ed and its posts removed, despite me sending an abuse report 14 hours I had to spend, to put it coldly, implementing damage limitation, to the posters that took it badly.

When was the last time abuse spent 16 hours solid, pm’ing a venerable poster that was at the end of her tether, talking to her to stop her doing something stupid after a troll pushed her to the edge?

I remember the last time I did that very well, the hardest night of my life, but worth it, as far as I know, she is still here, as a post several months later proved.

MSE is a great place, but it is time you realised how vulnerable some posters are.

No matter how many warnings you post, the vulnerable wont see them, all they want is help.

By the way, if you don’t like this post, and decide to delete it, delete my account with it, as I wont need it anymore.

Don't worry Bat they won't see it,
you didn't use banned smillies (insert banned smillies);)

BR/DFW are in my opinion the most likely for attack from idiots, and we do need extra protection from MSE towers,
maybe oneday when they have had to do the PM, phone call things with vulnerable people maybe then the penny will drop.

How does this sound for a sugguestion:o
BR and DFW get a new sub board seperate from the "Pure money" board,
debts and dealing wit it, that is monitored not moderated

Sorry to rake this up again but I feel I need to say something as this was brought to my attention i've been trying to think what to say most of the day......I totally agree with BAT over the way abuse sometimes handle posts (or dont)...many occasions i've had run ins with trolls & as ever report as instructed sometimes the odd occasion results in what can only be described as bullying on the forum via PM etc yet all these times i've reported as instructed things to abuse.....and whats the result you might ask??

ZERO.... so unless abuse get off their backsides and do the job they're supposed to be doing then I disagree with MSE employees, i'm lucky to have got over some very nasty bouts of depression along with a diagnosis of bi-polar a while ago after the last troll bout I ended up as low as i'd been in a long time all thanks to someone not doing their job but in the end I had a caring OH who spotted the signs and thankfully got me the help I needed....it's only a matter of time though as bat said someone might not be as lucky. You really should try walking in our shoes for a few hours here we're the scum of the earth & the lowest of the low you name it...till you've been on the receiving end of frankly some NASTY comments both here & PM and off site as well you clearly have NO CLUE

and i'm with bat...I put in many hours of FREE time here to help others in their times of need but frankly the way this place is run of late I really dont know why I bother...so please if you delete bats account you can happily bin me as well...

It's about time 'people' relised the bankruptcy board is not like others, you have to tread carefully for the exact reason bat and Phil have outline. Such an emotive topic, such real despair in people's lives. It's not support on moneyaving, it's a board to help life saving. You think i'm being melodramatic? Think again.. been there, done that and I don't have a medical condition, just a debt problem that was all too consuming.
