Put half of the carer's salary away for a few years, then you can afford to give up work for a few years but still have the same equivalent income.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Saving for our first family holiday in May 11 :j0 -
In the nicest possible way, you are probably making the same mistake as a lot of people in thinking that cutting down means you feel like you are missing out. Actually, with agreed goals in mind (ours was overpaying on our mortgage until a job issue sprang up), you just don't fritter money away. But you truly begin to appreciate stuff when you do have it. Even an ice cream is a real treat for us now. We really enjoy things much more.
We're getting married this year, and hiring a cottage for two weeks. Due to our recent change in circumstances, we will have practically no spending money other than our normal grocery budget. However, just to be able to sit in the lush gardens of the cottage and eat our evening meal outside by the river will be something we will appreciate so much. Previously it wouldn't have felt like a holiday unless we were eating out each night and day tripping. Never mind that we would have stayed in glorious (to us) accommodation.
We take far more time to value simple things, and that includes valuing each other. (Althou we're not that simple, lol):heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
