I am feeling relatively organised. I have ordered the twins school trousers and jumpers for September(the M&S 3 for 2 deal along with the £10 codes and quidcomade them v.reasonable). I still need to get some T-shirts and jumpers from their school though ( for official school events type stuff).

Where do you get the 10 pound codes from? Was it specific to you or is it a general one? Need to order LO some uniform.

in -ish this week. Am going to not even make alist just see what I can do and maybe write what I've done.

How do others with small children and jobs manage ?
The kids are now DS 5 (at school full time, DD1 3 1/2 - at preschool Tues-Fri mornings, and DD2 9 months and with me at home except when I work. She is rolling everywhere tyring to eat Polly Pocket and Meccano aarrghhhh).

I work 9-3ish Tues Weds Thurs. I find from school pickup to tea time all I do is unpack all the bags that come in the door, tidy kitchen and any mail thats come in, play for a bit with baby before she has a sleep, do tea for all. Then its a bit of tidying then baths/showers if time and stories/bed and feed baby milk. That takes til 8pm. I still usually have to finish tidying downstairs and make lunches/get bags ready for tomorrow, and then put away/hang out any laundry thats in progress.

On Mon & Fri when I don't work I try to get the tidying/laundry done before school pick up but we usually have to fit in the food shopping & swimming lessons & me going to the gym & various play stuff with baby and the preschooler.

I rarely hoover, rarely dust, almost never clean the bathrooms. Our finances are in a mess again. I can keep up with the essentials of shopping/cooking/laundry/schoolbags/lunch and am obsessive about tidying up the clutter, but the actual cleaning and then the finances I find really hard to fit in. I'm too tired in the evenings by the time the essentials are done. I keep trying to thin of a better way to do things but can't magic up the extra child free couple of hours in the day that I need.

By the way you will all be really pleased to hear I took some excellent advice from friend of mine and I have been much more assertive in getting DH to help and telling him what I need WITHOUT FEELING GUILTY ABOUT IT. If he is in a strop I used to obsess that it was my fault and keep going on "are you ok ? what is it? Is it me ?" Now I just say "is something bothering you you seem tense/tired/distant/etc" and if he says "nothing I'm ok", then I think "ok your problem, if you dont want to talk about it thats up to you" and I plod on with whatever I am doing and ask for the help anyway. I'm getting better at being quite specific with instructions and not letting there be room to misinterpretation etc and not feeling hard done by when I have to micromanage - after all he is but a man, bless him. Its making me treat hiom a lot more nicely too :)

    Hello all,

This is my first post on the flylady thread. I am an absolutely crappy housewife when it comes to cleaning. I’m kick !!! in the kitchen, a canny shopper, thanks to this site am a good moneysaver and do all our accounts and I make a mean cup of tea too.:D However, on the housework front I’m embarrassingly bad. For example it has been three months since I cleaned the bathroom, and there are three days worth of pots in the kitchen. I haven’t changed the bedding for about 6 weeks and the last time I dusted was…..well I don’t even want to think about it.:o

Frankly, the only housework that gets done around here is the kitchen every few days ( when I have used every single pot in the house and we’ve got to the paper plate stage) or when my in laws come to stay and I put on the domestic goddess act.

There, I said it. My names Jen, and I’m a messaholic. I used to laugh and say ‘an immaculate house is the sign of a dull woman’, but the truth is nobodies laughing. The house is a pigsty, it is making both me and my husband completely stressed and unable to enjoy our free time. I need help I need it now and you, poor people who subscribe to this thread are going to have to listen to my spectacular mishaps, accidents, relapses and moaning. But somehow, if I can be a better housewife when it comes to the chores, I know I will feel a bit better about myself and it would really change the life of my husband and I for the good.

So, in terms of the list I’m going to do as much as I can, but I believe in small steps and I hope I will get there in the end.

I only put 12 things on ebay a few days ago, so I’ll skip the ebay challenge, although I think its an ace idea. Also, I don’t have a dining room, we just eat in the living room so I’ve deleted all the dining room stuff.

    So, my housework schedule tomorrow…

Manic Monday - Kitchen and Dining Room

    Level One
    Sweep and Clean floors,
    Level Two
    Clear and wipe kitchen surfaces
Sort fridge bringing what needs using soon to the front

    Level Three
Wipe and replace all those small appliances.. kettle, toaster etc
Clean cupboard door fronts and fronts of appliances
Clean oven if you didn't do it last week
    Extras
    1. Wipe window sills and clean windows in these rooms.
    2. Make fudge for best friends wedding anniversary AND CLEAR UP AFTERWARDS!
    3. Go to library, take read books back and pick up food for free book for foraging trip next week.
    4. Find a nice HM gift idea for my Nans 80th birthday.
    5. Sort plants out in yard, transfer herbs into bigger pots.
    6. Sweep the shared corridor in our building as am the only person who hasn’t done it yet!

That’s quite enough for one day! Thanks for your patience and understanding over the coming week…I’ll keep you posted…and thanks for such an ace thread. I look forward to getting to know you all over the coming weeks and months.

    Jen x

Just wanted to say hello quickly and well done to Jill. Just remember there arent enough hours in the day to get everything done, so dont expect to. After the phone conversation with my OH tonight, if he wants us to spend more time doing stuff then things will slide and if we're having a good time then it wont matter. He says he wants our daughter to remember the things we did and not the fact that the house was clean.

Anyway havent moved as due to facebook I have refound our French au pair who lived with us 4 years ago and been catching up with her. Ironic shes working about 20 miles from where OH was staying!

    Anyway I am going NOW

PS Welcome Zenjen - we're all like that too - this morning I cleaned up the fish and chip plates that had been there since friday - OH and try and find the confessions thread that was on here a little while ago it was brilliant, and yes most of us posted on there too
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!

Welcome Jen you sound like you'll fit in here very well;)

Jill it's nice to see you back. I haven't got much advice sorry as i only run the toddler group two mornings a week and struggle to fit everything in. Just wanted to send you a virtual hug.

Big welcome to ifits and zenjen - the idea is you just do what you can and praise yourself for what you have done rather than trying to catch up. Or if you're like me you do loads on Monday and Tuesday, a bit on Wednesday and very little for the rest of the week. Or, as in recent weeks just do nothing at all. I'm hoping Pigpen needs glasses and can't read this small writing. So, as I was saying, I do everything, on every list, every single day ;) !!!

I've looked at tomorrow's list and told DH what he has to do. He's up for it so I can revise more tomorrow night. I know everything I need to know for tomorrows theory papers and DH has just tested me doing a virtual massage in the air which was quite entertaining....especially as all my muscles are still killing me :rotfl: . It's an adapted massage for people with cancer so it's a bit different for what i'm used to but think i've got it now! I've got to do a virtual practical tomorrow because I can't actually use my left hand properly and they'll make me do another actual one in September. I'm going to feel a right prat doing it to a vacant massage table tomorrow!!!

Thanks for all the good wishes...i'm actually looking forward to it tomorrow.

Right, guess i'd better call it a day for real this time xx

I haven't done this properly since last year but am in again this week as I want to get on top of things before the school holidays start in a few weeks time. I've got school runs and preschool runs and LO goes to Music Club in am, and I need to go to supermarket for odds and ends, meals to prepare etc, but here is my main list for tomorrow:-

Manic Monday - Kitchen and Dining Room
    Level One

    Clean floors,
    Level Two
    Clear and wipe kitchen surfaces
Sort fridge bringing what needs using soon to the front
Wipe dining table.. and check the underside.. (clean table cloth if necessary)
    Level Three
Dust any extra furniture in dining area, checking for cobwebs on way round
Wipe and replace all those small appliances.. kettle, toaster etc
Clean cupboard door fronts and fronts of appliances
Clean oven if you didn't do it last week
    Extras

    1. Wipe window sills and clean windows in these rooms
    2. Photograph 25 items for ebay.. :D.. and list 5 today! - Will aim to list 2 items a day - 5 is too ambitious and I shall set myself up to fail!
    3. Put WM's/DW's on a 'clean' cycle.. make sure those doorseals and filters are clear.. soda crystals and white vinegar get rid of unpleasant smells and germs.. I usually put a cap full of bleach in mine too. - Did this last week so am not doing it again already!
    4. One load of washing, dried (on line) folded and put away (we don't do ironing here:o )
    Wish me luck!

One week till school holidays, two weeks till our holiday, so the house has to get sorted to perfection this week.

I did just do an hours ironing by the way, before you start thinking I have been a lazy sod :p

Been S&Sing before going to bed so it is tidy... just needs a good clean is all. Kids room needs A-bombing right enough...

OK, no more excuses, no hayfever meds making me groggy, no I can't be arzed, just lets get at it! Tomorrow like, I'm tired...

Johanne, the slings are great for getting about with a nosey baby and they help keep babys head a nice round shape (I'm an admin on a Plagio site, can't help it) plus there are a hundred other reasons why they are good for baby and it's nice bonding time too. Just make sure you mind your back ;)

Oh reminds me, Edinburgh on Tuesday, need to sort out childcare... and a tight top... :rotfl:
