Blackberry ?

Hi,
I've just got a Blackberry, think it's an older model; anyway, it's got O2 on it, does this mean it's locked to the O2 network ?
Is there any way to tell ?
Thanks.
Unlikely it is locked.
Try another sim card from a different network. If it does not work, then it is locked.
However, you will only be able to make and recieve calls on it.
If you want to send and receive emails or surf the web you will need to change the WAP settings etc, which is possible but cab be a real PITA.

Thanks for the reply.
Do you mean that even if it's not locked, I can't send emails, etc. without reconfiguring it ?0 -
blackberries are locked on o2 and they can only be unlocked by o2 once you have had it for 12 months (other places may be able to unlock it for you tho)The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about - Oscar Wilde:beer:

it is possible to get them unlocked but costs and takes a few weeks. Contact your provider and ask them to do it. I did mine through vodafone but they have to send the request off to blackberry in stats (RIM) and then get a code back basically.
However, the process was taking so long I just sold it and bought a vodafone one instead.
The old blackberry's can be unlocked - find a provider on ebay.0 -
So, if I go with O2, I should be able to send emails, surf the web, etc. without having to reconfigure the Blackberry ?0

It'll be setup with the contract settings, so if you put a payg sim in it you'll still have to reconfigure it, but it won't need unlocked/factory reset.
A quick google will give you the payg settings, but O2 customer service will fob you off with rubbish about how it's a contract phone and won't work at all on payg like they did to me and my O2 exec.
You'll only get web on it, mind you, if you use o2 payg. Only http traffic will work, so pop or imap won't.They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Thanks; just sent off for the O2 payg sim card.
Hopefully, it'll turn up soon.0 -
Remember that BlackBerry e-mail requires subscription to a BlackBerry service plan... There may be a third party e-mail client for normal POP/IMAP/SMTP, but it's not how it's "designed" to work so probably more hassle than it's worth.0

Crikey !
This is more trouble than it's worth. Might just use it as a normal phone.0 -
OK, got the payg sim card from O2 and inserted it, charged the battery, etc.
I can receive and send SMS, but can't seem to make phone calls.
When I dial out, the other phone rings but I can't hear anything.
Likewise, somebody can call me and the Blackberry rings, but when I answer, I can't hear anything.
Any ideas ?0
