AVG 8 - How to get a succesful installation?

Best way is to restart your computer into Safe Mode by pressing F8, from the option just select Safe Mode and wait until it boots you to the desktop. Then, uninstall, restart and then install the latest version. Safe Mode just loads the bare minimum to get the computer up and running, it's mainly for troubleshooting, but it's good when you've got programs that are very interwined with the operating system like this.0

Also there's no pressing reason why you have to stick with AVG. The whole trend and market could be quite different in six months time anyway.
I had read somewhere it was the end of the year but I keep getting a "updates for 7.5 will end 25.6.08". Is 31.12.08 a confirmed date then?0 -
Is anyone else finding AVG8 has slowed down their web browsing. Firefox used to zip along quite nicely but now it is soooooo slooooow. What can I do to speed it up?Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

AVG 8 is more like bloat ware. I ditched it and moved to Avira free version now and this seems to be much lighter on resources.0

AVG is a huuuuuge resource hog now.
ditch it.
get something like Avast instead, much easier on your comp and just as reliable."If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
Not a good idea to upgrade to 8 yet. You could lose part of your email database. See the "AVG 8 - a warning" thread here.0

I've used and recommended AVG for years
Just discovered that v8 won't work with early Win2000 installations
Any ideas please?
Avast?
Avira?
PS just realised these two were mentioned above - are they OK?0 -
Garetha, I've just downloaded Avira. I chose it over Avast because it also has anti malware incorporated. So far no problems and surfing is definitely faster than with AVG, the test will come tomorrow when I start working and usually have 20+ pages open at once.Life's a beach!
