Would it help if you deleted the saved game data for the ps2 games and retried the disc? Also, have you checked the ps2 games compatibility list on the sony/ps3 website. Not all ps2 games will run on ps3.0

i was on the understanding UK PS3's no longer support PS2.....after you upgrade the systemIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -

EDIT: OP, have you tried reloading the firmware?
im not sure if it will allow you to do this or not but you can get the firmware from here. transfer it to a usb flash drive/external hdd/flash memory card etc then go to system update and select from storage media0 -
@gamr - did a full hard disc reformat taking around 4 hours. This clears everything down on hd, effectively to a factory default state.
@gaming_guy - I'd previously upgraded to OS 2.36. Once I'd done the re-format, this remained at 2.36.
Very bizarre that PS1 games work, PS2 don't , but PS3 do.
Anyway, phoned Playstation customer care today and a replacement should be coming to me tomorrow to swap over. Never had to deal with Sony in the 8+ years I've had Playstation consoles and it's very pleasing to see that they're helpful and keen to get the matter resolved quickly.Mortgage and debt free. Hi,
Just a quick update to say at about 3.30pm today, I received a replacement 60Gb Playstation 3 - sealed, packed and came in a pink box! Courier took mine away.
Thanks to everyone who replied on this thread...

I also had this problem with a couple of PS2 games.
Not all PS1/2 games are backward compatible , and there is nothing you can do about it, my favourite game Black onPS2 kept freezing on certain levels and so I gave up and play it only on my PS2 which thankfully I kept when I bought my PS3.You live..You learn.:)0 -

If you read the thread you'll see that these are games that were working at one point but all suddenly stopped. That's definitely a fault and not a compatibility issue."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
