Unsolicited Items

Just remembered this one this morning. About a month or two ago my dad got a jiffy bag in the mail and inside were two PC games. They appeared to be OEM/not for resale versions that usually come with graphics cards (i.e. not retail boxed versions). There was no letter, note or anything else. What would everyone else do just out of interest?

The games were Call of Juarez and Battlefield 2 (complete edition or something) for those wondering. And no my dad isn't a gamer in the slightest.

I'm posting it here because they're obviously secondhand and so most likely to have originated from an auction/classified etc.

If there are no return details, there's really not a lot he can do.

Flog them on eBay himself maybe? :D

The seller will be able to claim for lost goods from RM, so no-one should end up out of pocket on this.

Think my dad's already misplaced them , well he can't currently remember where he put them although he hasn't looked for them. But it's just really bizarre. I mean I can't really think of a reasonable explanation for why they were sent to him. How do you get a completely wrong name and address?

Were they delivered correctly addressed to your dad in person? (or without any specific name e.g. the occupier)

Wrongly delivered items are not unsolicited - they are wrongly delivered.

It seems strange that someone is sending out used, unsolicited goods - is this the new way to get rid of your rubbish without paying the wheelie bin tax some councils are trying to impose?

When I say my dad I mean it was specifically addressed to him. I'm pretty sure that makes it unsolicited because they were delivered correctly, i.e. to the exact name and address written. But I just don't get where they got my dad's name and address from.

    True:)

If they were addressed to him and he didn't request/order them they are unsolicited.

He didn't order something else similar about the same time did he? I wonder if the seller mixed the labels up?

Nope. He doesn't really do the whole internet shopping thing. He hasn't used his ebay account in at least a year. There's no activity on it and none of his previous sellers (only a handful) seem to have been selling anything recently.

Is he likely to have ordered anything from an Amazon seller... perhaps some time back?

Could be a really slack packaging routine... I'd never make a mistake like that *cough*

As I said he rarely does the whole internet shopping thing. He's actually never ordered anything off Amazon (well maybe once or twice in his life), but definitely never an Amazon seller.

I even checked for those combination of games on ebay in general and couldn't find anyone who'd sold both those games (at least as far back as Ebay's search goes).

Any other thoughts welcome because I'm stumped. Not least that if it's a mistake by a seller, surely we'd have heard soemthing by now with something like a followup letter trying to rectify the situation etc.

Genuinely curious to other people's thoughts and suggestions etc, because in the end it isn't a big deal but more just a bit of a brain teaser I thought I'd share.
