So you're paying 1/14th of your income on rent, bills and food included, and wanting to pay even less when you're not there?
I fear that moving out and entering the real world is going to be a nasty shock to you.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Hi,
As most people have already stated you will probably have a reality shock when you move into your own place, I know I certainly did when I moved out!
I do however, think you should negotiate a discount while you are away as your mum will not need to get food in for you etc.
Everyones situation is different, some parents chose to not charge keep because they either don't feel it is right or they may not need the money, others need to charge it as they need to help to pay bills that you are helping to increase or they want to teach you about paying your way.
But as another poster has said you should bring your mum back a nice pressie and try not to fall out with her about this!0 -
Now I still feel you have to pay rent while you are on holiday but it kinda depends on the arrangement you have with your mother. Last year I continued to pay my mum rent while I was on holiday, but in my first year out of uni, my mum let me off. Now that may not be the tough love so many on the board advocate, but my mum simply wanted to make sure I had enough money with me and reward me for working my butt off to pay off my student debts and save for my first holiday in 4 years. I know that I really appreciated the break and was very grateful to my mum.
I don't think we should berate the OP for asking this question, living at home is different to renting, even if some people think it shouldn't be and there are different rules between families. I think you need to plan your budget as if you are going to be paying full rent to your mum. I don't know what your circumstances are but if your mum needs and is relying on the money then you will have to pay, if you need that bit extra for your holiday talk to your mum about whether you can pay when you get back by doing an extra shift, or see whether your mum would knock £20 or so off this time but acknowledge that you will have to pay full rent over your holiday next time.0 -
if you were in private accommodation I wonder what your landlord would say....
I really wonder with some people that life skills have not been taught or are ignored...
although I'm gonna ring the electric company, my landlord, my telephone company and in fact all the utilities companies and ask if i can have discount because I'm going on holiday and well i have to pay for a hotel, and pay for all my booze and clubs.... and probably the morning after pill cause i was too stupid to stop and think, because i'm so self centred to only think about myself /rant overLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
So immature, the real world is going to be a shock!!
Have you thought that the only reason you can afford this holiday is because you are only paying your Mum £50 a week? On wages of £700 a month, if you were paying proper rent and bills you would not be surviving let alone having a holiday.
Poor Mum she has a real struggle aheadLoretta0
