Should I pay my Mum 'keep' when I'm on holiday?

You are being unreasonable. £50 "keep" is a massive discounted rate compared to living on your own. Whilst I had my weeks holiday last week I still had to pay my mortgage for the month, council tax etc etc. Sorry to sound patronising but your mum is trying to treat you like an adult and as such you have to cover your obligations even if you're not physically there. Get used to it - it will make your transition to the real world a lot less painful.
Oh and my first job only paid me £400 a month and I still had to pay my keep from that too.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

as someone who gets 700 quid a month working full time and has to pay bills, rent etc, and keep a 13 year old alive, I wouild love it if I only had to fork out £50.. best thing you can do is tell your mum that if she covers your outgoings while you're away, you'll cover hers when she is.... fairs fair.... you should be grateful you have such a generous mum.. mine took half my pay off me.. and I considered myself lucky!0

deal with it, life's a b!tch.0

I am going away in August.. maybe I should phone the gas, electricity and TV people and tell them I won't be paying as I am away.
Seriously you're on a good deal there I pay more then £50 just for the above 3 things.. so of course you should still pay her:j £2 coins = £2.00 :j0 -
I think that's unreasonable. It's not as if when you're not there, you're using food, electric, water, etc.0

but the room is still being used in which they could rent out, if we're gonna be picky about it.
it's not like the £50 a week actually covers her ACTUAL cost of living there either

sorry to buck the trend but my daughter has moved back home after a long term relationship break up.
she pays £60 a week for her board. I personally wouldnt dream of her paying while
she was away on holiday, it doesnt cost an extra £60 a week for extra
water, electricity and food. She's my child for goodness sake and i would not dream of making a profit out of her.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
good for you, but if it doesn't cost an extra £60 a week in food, electric, gas, water, etc etc then why charge her £60 a week?0
-
well i took it as that's what she was saying, cos otherwise it's pretty obvious it doesn't cost EXTRA if there's less people living there?????0
