:j I will have to investigate ways of making muesli palatable. Quote.
I always put milk on my muesli before I take children to school and when I get back it has soaked in. It is like a soaked weetabix, and i add raisens and chopped dried apricots.:hello: JULY G/C £50 WEEK

we don't have box cereals - our breakfasts include cheese/beans on toast, porridge with honey, toasted teacakes, eggy bread, bacon butties, buttermilk pancakes (if I've been organised the night before!) each followed by a bit of fruit.0

M -porridge with golden syrup
T- scrambled egg/beans on toast
W -American style pancakes and golden syrup
T- granola
F - bacon sandwich or bacon and beans
They usually have orange juice (dd isn't allowed it any more as it goes right through her!) or a piece of fruit.
Fruity muffins, soda bread, loads of wholemeal toast and hm jam also feature;) I never buy boxed cereals -yep, we're the only family in the school who can't contribute an empty cereal box when needed:D0 -
Those breakfasts look delicious. The problem is, I find wholemeal bread - whether shop-bought or homemade - costs more than cereal. Also doesn't fill them up for as long, so they need toast AND cereal. I'm going to experiment with pancakes, muffins and other ideas from on here, which will add variety and excitement, but I don't see that they will end up any cheaper.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Either, bran flakes and sliced bananas, or basic rice krispies and sliced bananas.
Or make fruit smoothies using any cheap fruit and milk/plain yoghourt
We got mangoes in Lidl today for 35p each and mangoes in Sainsburys were, £1.79! Or 2 for £2.00.
The box of instant syrup oats from Lidl is less than a pound and tastes fine to us as well. Two minutes in the microwave and you're away.
There are about 10 sachets in a box.Felines are my favourite

Accidentally bought a bag of oatbran, thinking it was porridge oats. have a bm.
what can i use it for?
Lots of things! I use it to replace some of the flour in crumble topping (i.e. the recipe says use 8oz plain flour so I use 4oz plain flour, 2oz oat bran, 2oz rolled oats instead).
It also makes a nice breakfast dessert cooked with milk - just as you would make milky porridge.
Finally, when I'm making my own muesli, it's one of the ingredients - I always chuck a cup of oat bran in.0 -
used to have it in a recipe book but this is how we make it serves six But you can bulk make more if ya want i do and we have it on icecream as a treat with fruit or yoghurt in fact it goes with anything and the kids can help make it!!!:j
50g whole hazelnuts (crushed) (buy a big bag and they last for ages)
1 tablespoon sunflower oil (could use any but for healthy option)
3 tablespoons clear honey
150g porrige oats (i use netto ones dead cheap)
25g sunflower seeds (again buy a big bag)
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
50g dried apricots (or any othr you like)
25g sultanas (buy these in baking aisle as they are bigger bags and cost less go figure we buy raisens this way too and fill up the little boxes saves sooo much cash)
Heat the oven to gas mark 4,180C, 350f
put the sunflower oil and honey in to a pan stir until smooth and runny turn off heat
add hazelnuts, oats, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds and stir till everything is well coated
smooth on to a baking tray and bake till turn golden (about 15 mins)
once it is cooked and cooled break it up in to small pieces and mix in apricots and sultanas
add berries, or friut salad, or milk or whatever you want and eat
so quick and easy

There's a recipe in the panasonic book for oat and bran bread. I want to try it, but haven't been anywhere to pick up the bran. I did think about blitzing down some branflakes, but don't think it would be quite the same.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0
