do people actually fall for the silly tactics and tricks of a dca ?? if so why??,i know people are worried and desperate but i use to get phone calls (set the answer phone then changed number) they sent silly post cards binned them , sent letters shreaded them, offered all what i could afford sent it and ignored all there correspondence , some took me to court offered minimul payment accepted, when finances improved cleared them took a few years though.
got discounts on some got one written off .
i didnt bother corresponding sending prove the debt etc etc becouse it cost me money id rather send it to the debt no matter how small.
my advise to all is they cant get blood out of a stone give what you can afford they cant do much about it if its a unsecured debt the companies no when giving out money you could loose your job hey there insured for it,
change you phone number keep important letters ie transfer of debt etc shred the rest , its a 1% out of a 100 a dca will call if they do tell them to !!!!!! off.
court papers come make an offer and stick to it cheap as possible so you do not default your number one remember .
pay essentials rent/mortgage ,c/tax,elec,gas,water.
do not talk to dca workers on the phone there invading your space and there out to make you feel small etc etc etc ,
above all if you have your home , car one holiday a year pay your essentials, pay of your debts slowly and DO NOT DO IT AGAIN,
above all enjoy life you only live once do not be put down by any one

I was scared at first LR,
now I don't pay any attention -but I tend to find that people fear what they don't know and I didnt know that most of their tactics were blowing very serious HOT AIR!Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
I don't let them bother me any more. I did at the beginning before I found this and other forums because I wasn't aware of my legal rights but now I know what they can and can't do, I just ignore them. If they take me to court, well so be it, I'll probably still end up paying what I'm paying now. I don't want credit again so I'm not bothered if I have a CCJ or 2.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Mortgage free since 2014

People get scared because they don't know that the DCAs etc are not following the rules - they assume that DCAs follow the rules and laws and that they have no protection - I might have thought the same thing myself in the past to be honest if I hadn't found MSE

Empowerment through knowledge I say!!!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Its easy for us to sit here knowing not to be scared but lots of people don't. I see many posts saying don't talk to DCA on the phone and think why, some days I even enjoy it the thought they are wasting money phoning me.Barclaycard 3800

If DCA ring me up they usually start with asking something to confirm my identity
My response is " you are ringing from a withheld number. I cannot give you confidential information over the phone." They usually ask me then what they can do to prove who they are - my response is then " send me a letter with proof of the debt, including copies of the original agreement and any payments made, and how the balance came about" - I usually don't hear from them after that. Until they sell it on to someone else and it all starts again.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
