Getting rid of old oil tank
Fraserca
I have replaced my oil central heating with a ( hopefully ) cheaper to run gas condensing setup.
The problem is the old metal oil tank in the garden. Its got about 400 litres of oil in it. I can't leave it there to rust ( and I don't have a diesel car ! )
Any suggestions on how to get it removed economically - there is about £120 worth of oil there only delivered a few months ago.
Thanks

We did the same thing last year. We ran the tank down before we got the Gas installed though so we didn't have to empty it.
It was sugested we get a scrap merchant to take the tank away - which we were going to do but we then got a skip in for some garden rubbish and persuaded the skip driver to take it away for a fiver!
Maybe you can drain the oil into petrol containers and give/sell it to your neighbours? I assuem you are semi rural as you have oil?Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0 -
You could try freecycle.

I think you need to check with your Local Authority as I'm sure there are environmental regulations that govern how you dispose of it.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Thanks for the advice all. Still got the problem.
I would have run the tank down but other work getting done meant that the boiler had to get changed at the same time. Oh well - I'll phone the Local Authority tomorrow and post here when I have it sorted.qui tacet consentire -
