I sent a letter to Inland Revenue about 6 weeks ago stating I was self employed. I haven't received any reply but today I got a bill for £40.90 for national insurance.
I haven't sent in a small earnings exemption yet. If I send this in I shouldn't need to pay this bill, yes?0 -

Phone them up and ask for a small earnings exemption then they'll write off the bill. (That's what I did.)0 -

Correct - they're really behind with their paperwork in most offices so you should be fine. It's worth calling them just to be sure though as the NI could be a coincidence (unless it's definitely class 2)0
