I'm guessing by "ShAbbey" that you've had bad experiences with Abbey? I was considering switchnig my banking over to them as they have a higher APR on their instant access savings, would you not advise that?
They do take DD payments on their online banking, but it's only for monthly statements and not one-off payments, do you think I'd be able to phone up and make an instant DD payment for say £50 to cover the 'overdraw'?

I along with most of their customers (probably) have constant problems with them.
This months trick is to charge their customers overdraft fees for staying in credit !!! Avoid them like the plague !

As for good savings accounts try Kaupthing Edge, ICICI, Bradford and Bingley....they are the market leaders.

Ref your card, make an immediate payment as it shows goodwill on your part, but as I said before it won't be instant as it will take time to clear.

Thanks, I'll definately have a look into them, the bank I use at the moment is Icesave, they have (or had) a good ISA rate guaranteed until 2013 at 6.1%, and Fixed Term Investments at the same 7.01% as Kaupthing Edge, I think it's useful to know of a few high interest banks so as to not put "all your eggs in one basket", but I suppose as you're advising me you already know that :p.

Quick note...I'm new to posting here (you may tell) and seem to be offering advice to myself in my own thread, do you think there's much point in doing that or should I post any advice in a seperate thread in the relevant section?

This might be a silly suggestion (clutching at straws) but have you made any purchases lately which you could return for a refund and get a credit back to the card? One way to get money back on the card.

Exactly my first thought, I was going to return the purchase I made today and get the £39 refunded, but the purchase is still logged in my account yet the refund won't clear for several days so it's the same situation as trying to pay cash in!
Thanks for your advice though :), much appreciated.

OK, I've made a mistake, the Abbey online banking actually counts recent transactions even though it doesn't display them individually, the past two transactions were taken into account when they said I have £50 still available so I'm fee free and have £50 left to spend.

Sorry for taking your time, but this thread might help someone in a similar situation.

Although it’s ultimately my fault for not double-checking I’m joining the ShAbbey club as I'm a little miffed at their online statements being somewhat misleading, why give a total based on transactions NOT displayed in your statement yet?!

    Thanks again, Andy
