Gone over credit limit

in Credit cards
Hello,
I've just realised I've gone over the credit limit on my Abbey credit card, I realised today that I've gone over by £13.06 but they don't seem to allow me to make a payment to my card before my statement due date, both Halifax and PayPal allow this so I'm wondering if it's a legal requirement and if I can do anything to get some money in there before I'm charged a £12.00 fee!
One payment was made today and the other yesterday (20th) so I've got until Monday to deposit the money in time (I hope).
Does anyone know the number to call to deposit money pre-statement (I haven't received my first statement yet) or if there's any lee-way on going over the limit?
Thanks for any help, Andrew

The fee will have already been allocated to your account so the only way you're going to get that removed is to speak to them nicely, as well as paying something onto your card ASAP. Not sure why you think you've got until monday ? A limit is a limit, there is no grace, not even for going 1p over. The automated system will add the charge automatically.
Just ask them for the sort number and account number to make a BACS payment and make the payment online through your own bank, but you cannot make that payment til monday and it usually takes 3-4 days to get to the account.0 -
Maybe OP is relying (hoping) on the 2-3 day lag between transaction date and posting date...especially over a weekend? When they say "One payment was made today ", I think they mean "one purchase..."?Not sure why you think you've got until monday ?
Debit card might be quicker?make a BACS payment0 -
Hello,
Sorry, was in a bit of a panic when I first posted, to clarify...online banking says I have £50 left to spend but I spent £24 on Friday and £39 today which hasn't shown up yet.
This happened once before with my Barclaycard but I managed to transfer money in time before the payment cleared as YorkshireBoy said.
I phoned Abbey and got the same person twice who insisted it was impossible to pay anything off my credit card balance before I was issued with a statement which will be too late to avoid the fee, I know this isn’t true for other banks but Abbey may be different?
I'm thinking if I can initiate the payment today or tomorrow it will reach the account at the same time the withdrawal does and I'll be fine, but without someone willing to take a payment off me I'm stuck, will I be able to visit and Abbey branch to pay something as I know with Barclays I can't (Barclaycard isn’t Barclays), or do you know of a phone number I can call?
The person on the phone said as soon as I go over my limit or owe them something (which I do anyway???) their “collection department” will contact me, again that is too late to avoid the fee.
I read on here that you have to be vigilant when ‘Stooging’ and I now know why!
Thanks again for any help you can provide, Andrew0 -
Sorry, another post...
I have an old Action Saver account with Abbey so I may be able to transfer from that to the card instantly? I don't have any experience with Abbey policies/service as I'm primarily a NatWest/Barclays customer.0 -
I think, once you've sent a payment by BACS (ring and get the details off them...sort code, collection account, 16-digit card number), and made contact with them, you've done all you can. However, this payment will not arrive until Wednesday.
Make sure your calls have been logged on your account, and you have the names and extension numbers of those CSA's you have spoken to. This might help you later when you try to get the 0% reinstated...once they've removed it for breaching the T&C's and start to pile the interest on.
What's "stooging"?I read on here that you have to be vigilant when ‘Stooging’ and I now know why!

Hello,
Thanks for your reply, not the news I was hoping for but should have been more careful!
I didn't realise I'd loose the 0% either as I didn't actually get chance to read the T&C's before I received the card (was in the same envelope) which I normally do twice-over.
I'll phone again at 2/3am and hopefully get someone who is helpful and get the details, then with any luck the new instant BACS service will include NatWest to Abbey payments.
I suppose after all the money the credit card companies have earned me they’re due a bit of recompense, lol.
Thanks for your help, I'll post my findings in case anyone else has the same problem.0 -
Pheww...just checked and I keep my 0% as long as I correct any 'overdraw' within 10 working days
, just the £12.00 fee to worry about now. 0 -

RE 0% it's in the paper T&C's, with the phone call I don't know, I had to enter all my details before speaking to someone so I guess it's stored, when I phone back I'll get all those details, thanks

Yes I suppose he could be hoping for a long shot ? Do ShAbbey accept Debit card payments ? If they do will it be allocated immediately or upon clearence ?0
