i would like help give my staffie pups kennel club names

Hi

i have to make up kennel club names for my 9 staffie pups.
i have 6 !!!!!es and 3 dogs each need 2 names (incase 1st choice not allowed).
the names must be at least 2 words long but no more than 24 letters.

they are all black brindle so i was thinking maybe somehow refering to the colour in some way??

needs to be done asap as i have to send form off by weekend

thanks

Kelly

How about a theme - like...historical explorers or great scientists? That way people will recognise they all come from teh same litter if any of them go on to be show dogs or anything? I dunno, never even thought about how they decide on kennel names so if this is a rubbish suggestion then...disgard!

Well, seeing as you're a money saver why don't you name them after banks/building societies:

    Bradford, Bingley, Lloyd, Cahoot...... :rotfl:

ooh - I like the food ones too, chocolate...

Thornton, nestle, cadbury, ferrero rocher, toblerone, picnic, galaxy..... I'm hungry now!

    OK here we go:-

You should choose a kennel name for your dogs. This is a name that would identify you as the breeder. You probably want something personal to you, such as the name of your house, where you met your partner, favourite place. Here the name is Cartouche and can generally be written two ways eg:- "MUSHANA Benji Of CARTOUCHE" or "CARTOUCHE Samantha". Thus in this instance Cartouche would be YOUR name and no one elses this will be the tricky one to check that it hasn't been registered by someone else.

Next you need to choose a name for the dog. I would choose something relevant such as the book Jock of the Bushveld by Percy Fitzpatrick about a staffie in Africa. And away you go.

I have had a look and thought about camps in the Kruger Park (there is a Jock of the Bushveld camp) So you could have "YOUR KENNEL NAME" followed by:-

    Letaba
    Skukuza
    Olifants
    Satara
    Shinwedzi
    Mopani

Why not have a read of Jock of the Bushveld or any other books etc I'm sure you will find something relevant.

    Have fun choosing!!
  • once new womeone whom had named their cats after indian quisine.

How about elvis songs , computer game or cartoon heros.

As mentioned above though the AFIX or prefix is unique to a breeder , should they choose to use it.Then after or beofre the affix goes the unique kc (pet)name.

we have an affix you need to pay to register it then pay a yearly fee of i think it's £15 at the mo to maintain it, it makes it so much easier naming pups that way plus their easily recognised in the show ring by enthusiasts.

Most breeders do stick to a theme, songs names, perfumes, etc etc, some have a different letter of the alphabet for each litter, if your struggling, do a web search of champ dog show results for tips on names.

heres one to get ya started

We have a prefix too, and yes it was easier and we went on the number of puppies to be named ie if 7 then maybe we would call them after the 7 dwarfs but i think, if you think up a name/word thats relevant to you or totally made up and use that as a prefix but then anyone else could also call there pups too unless you register it with the kennel club.

It took a while to find just the right affix and went through loads of names before selecting the one we thought was just right, we came up with one that used parts of the kids names, it was only afterwards we came up with rushnowt, it would have been a good un at the time as we had bulldogs lol, but the original had already been ok'd so now i use rushnowt on the internet :D

Right at the beginning we didn't put that much thought into the naming of the pups, but when we started showing a lot it became an obsession with the O/H and he would ponder over the names for days lol

As well as using a prefix or affix, some breeders (if they intend to breed often) use names that start with the same letter for each litter. The first may include Amy, Amber, Archie etc, then the second litter will be Bran, Beck, Billy and so on.
Don't be surprised if both names are rejected for a puppy, I've had that happen. I submitted a third name and someone at the KC ommited a letter and made the name positively obscene!
