bt one of charges

Hi, I canceled my BT phone and broadband package in April as I split with my partner and moved back in with my parents. I received a bill which i thought was my final bill about a fortnight later. Yesterday i received a further final bill stating I owed £370 in one of charges because i canceled my broadband service early. I rang BT and explained that I wasn't aware I would be charged this at the time I cancelled. I was told it was in my original contract that i signed almost a year earlier and there is nothing I can do but pay this charge. Is this the case? Am i stuck with this bill for something i didn't use?
