I sent a letter by 1st class recorded last thursdy (12/June), which still hasnt arrived..
according to lady at r/m, 1st class is only 'expected' to arrive within a couple of days, and is only considered lost after FIFTEEN working days have elapsed..??
it makes me think that r/d stuff is just bundled in with normal post..
Anyor else experienced delays recently?

It is better to send it 'signed for' - guaranteed next day delivery if you need an item to get there quickly. I never do recorded if it is urgent.Genie

Are you just checking online as sometimes that will never get updated?DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0

recorded delivery is sent with normal way- the 'recorded' just means it is signed for. If you want it there faster than 1st class then it has to be done 'special' delivery.
Just to clarify that as OP seemed a bit unsure of what recorded delivery was there for.
have you checked with recipient if they have received it or just been checking the tracking code online?0 -

special delivery is sent seperatly and is tracked en route
RD travels along with all the other mail
as for the delays, well welcome to the RM i have to deal with every day
this is the direct result of staff cuts and part time workers
i could tell storys,every day is a different disaster0 -

apparantly the recorded option doesnt go any faster- its just to get signature, as/when delivered though I thought sending 1st class post had some 'guarantee' of arriving either next day, or day after at latest?
might as well just sent 2nd class and saved a quid..
how they intend to find my item if it becomes 'really' lost is beyond me, if as they say is not tracked like special dels are..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

Thay don't expect to find it if it becomes lost. Thats why, if it's of any value you need to send it Special as it's insured at a higher value (it will then also arrive quicker). Recorded is useful for proving that someone has received a letter for eg and nothing else.
