I have had 2 Nokia 6111 phones given me, one is on Orange the other on T Mobile.
I want to use them doing my family history so I had them unlocked and bought a cable to transfer photo's to my PC, after paying for this the chap said they still will not work because they were contract phones they are Blocked.

also I have £20 with 02 left on my old phone and I don't want to waste that.

Any ideas what to do now please.
Drinda.

the only way they are "blocked" is if they were reported lost and the insurance paid out, or stolen. In this case there is nothing you can do about it

Contract phones are just locked like any other phone , so they unlocking guy is not telling the truth

I can't understand that as the people that gave them to me were still using them on a 18 month contract when they offered them to me and I had to wait a month until their contracts finished before I could have them, now they have both changed to another company.
    Thank you fore your reply

I would be very suspicious of Market Traders unlocking my phone. A while ago I tried to do a software update on my phone cos it had stopped charging. I gave it to a Market Trader and he said it would take a day or so cos he had to do it on his laptop at home.

A Few days later he came back and said that he couldn't update the phone cos it had water damage. I looked at the phone and the back cover was really worn out. The one I gave him was only 7 months old and was in perfect condition. I argued with the guy that he had deliberately changed the phone with one that had water damage, but he denied it and said I could call the cops if I wanted to. In the end I walked away cos it wasn't worth the hassle.

I know on the whole there are a lot of honest Market Traders, however, it's always best to ask them to unlock it whilst you wait as then they can't pull a fast one!

you should have checked the imei of the phone to the one on the box, then you would have known if he had changed it or not

And then you would have had proof to go to the police with if necessary.
